The Concord Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on December 5, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Police say checkpoints are placed in areas with a history of DUI crashes and arrests, aiming to deter impaired driving and keep the public safe. Officers will screen drivers for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. Sgt. Shawn Phalen said the department’s priority is community safety, noting that impairment can come from alcohol, marijuana, and even some prescription or over-the-counter medications. A first-time DUI can cost about $13,500 in fines and penalties and includes a license suspension. The operation is funded by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
