The BART Board of Directors unanimously elected Melissa Hernandez as its president for the 2026 term during its meeting today. Hernandez previously served as board vice president in 2025.
She will lead the board during a critical year for the agency as BART faces a projected budget deficit of up to $400 million following the exhaustion of state and federal emergency funding.
Hernandez was appointed to the board in May 2024 to represent District 5 and was elected to the seat in November 2024. The district includes parts of Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
Before joining the board, Hernandez served eight years on the Dublin City Council and four years as mayor. She also chaired multiple regional transportation agencies.
Incompetence breads incompetence.
Exactly they keep cycling the same people through with the same results and then say “I’m gonna fix this now just give me a chance to repair the mess I created” Much like the Concord city council the whole BART board needs to go. Bring back full police keep the property and parking garages safe that might be a first step to people utilizing the service. Not being ripped off or assaulted is a high priority for us citizens…who would have thought.
Try incompetence battered sometime.
Good luck on a Titanic adventure to her. her first day I would advise making a seat reservation on a lifeboat before you hit the iceberg on your second day. She obviously knows shes on a sinking ship
Count on the deficit growing…. sigh, again
We just allow them to be bailed out again and again while they pad their pockets amid monstrous deficits.
Does she specialize in non-profits?
Who cares she is actually part of the problem she is a current board member. I don’t care what her experience was prior to the problem she was part of creating. She and the rest of the board need to be repalced it’s that simple.
