DeSaulnier Calls Child Care Funding Freeze ‘Illegal’; Fact Check Finds Claim Undecided

Congressman DeSaulnier issued the following statement on the Trump Administration’s announcement of plans to “illegally” freeze $10 billion in funding for child care subsidies and social services for low-income children in California and four other states with Democratic governors.

“Playing politics with the lives of children by stealing billions of dollars meant to support their care and development is a new level of depravity for the Trump Administration. Targeting programs that Democrats and Republicans created together that support working families and children is not America First and will only damage our workforce and economy in the long run. If the Administration has the resources to pursue an endless regime-change war in Venezuela like it claims, it certainly can afford to support our own children. Congress alone authorizes funding and I call on my Republican colleagues in the House to denounce, investigate, and hold hearings on this cruel, anti-American, and illegal Executive overreach.”

WHENEVER A POLITICIAN ON EITHER SIDE ISSUES A STATEMENT THAT WE POST, WE’LL FACT CHECK IT WITH ChatGPT. Here’s what they say about DeSaulnier’s statement:

The content of the quote reflects his opinion and interpretation

Let’s unpack the major claims in that statement and what is objectively known:

  1. The Administration announced a freeze of federal funds
✔️ The Trump Administration has moved to withhold or freeze significant federal child-care and social-services funding to five predominantly Democratic states, including California, over alleged fraud concerns. AP News
  2. The quote describes it as “stealing billions meant to support care and development”. This is a political characterization — not a legal or neutral description. It reflects DeSaulnier’s viewpoint that the action harms children and communities and is wrongful, but it is not a legal finding that the funds were literally “stolen.”
  3. The quote calls the freeze “illegal Executive overreach”. Whether the freeze is ultimately illegal is not yet legally decided.Federal officials justify the action as necessary to prevent fraud and ensure integrity. AP News Critics, including DeSaulnier and other Democratic leaders, argue it may violate federal appropriations law and the Impoundment Control Act (which limits the executive branch’s ability to withhold funds Congress has appropriated). Litigation has already occurred around funding freezes in related contexts. Wikipedia
No final court ruling has universally declared the current freeze illegal — that’s an outcome of ongoing legal challenges.
  4. Claims about political motives (“playing politics,” “not America First”). This is subjective opinion and political rhetoric, not an established factual finding. Different political actors interpret the administration’s motives differently.

🟡 Summary

  • The statement was indeed issued by Congressman DeSaulnier. Congressman Mark Desaulnier
  • It includes factual elements, like the existence of the funding freeze. AP News
  • Much of the wording (e.g., “stealing,” “depravity,” “illegal”) is political opinion and not a legally established fact.
  • Whether the freeze is illegal is still a matter of legal dispute and has not been definitively settled by courts.

This drama queen fool has zero credibility at this point.

Shut up Mark. I’m not going to rely on a bartender that hasn’t had an original thought in 3 decades for my legal opinions. Did Nancy have to type out the bigger words in this statement for you?

Minnesota, then Ohio, and California is next.
It’s not likely the state can withstand much scrutiny in the money laundering department.
He should probably be more concerned with potential localized freezes.

So Claycord is now relying on ChatGTP in order to interpret statements of a politician?

Wow, sure sounds like tremendous journalism on your part. Tell me, do you also Fact Check all of the lies out of our President’s mouth too?

ChatGPT, idiocracy nears. I fear the next generation who has been taught to not think.

Idiocracy formally arrived when Mamdani was elected.

ChatGPT demonstrated itself superior in rational thought,
over sound bite democrat voters.

The federal government has no business funding or subsidizing day cares to begin with – start there.

His statement only proves that he doesn’t care about corruption and the stealing of the taxpayer’s money.
To democratic politicians like him it’s not corruption it’s just buying votes. It’s simple math. The more of our tax dollars you hand out to people, even if people are getting it fraudulently, they don’t care because the democrats know those people will vote for them.
What is really sad is the typical democrat voter in this state doesn’t care about crime or fraud and will continue to vote for anybody or any program that the democrats tell them too and they will vote for it without question or thought.

Mark, excellent collection of buzz words. Disappointed you did throw impeach in there.

I wonder if Mark will get caught up in the investigations? I like the ChatGTB filter, I remember when politicians were much more measured and civil in their responses to each other, but those days are long gone now with each competing for sound bytes against the other. Now we have braniacs like Jasmine Crockett and Marjorie Taylor Greene front and center.

…and don’t forget Walz’ recent desperate soundbite, how he’s going to ride Trump like he’s never been ridden. Crockett and her “F” bombs at Musk, the Supreme Court, etc. When they’re not singing off-key, they’re effing around all over the place.

Cyn,
.
Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green retired last Monday, January 05, 2026.

The Mamba,
.
It’s highly doubtful that Congressman DeSaulnier would get caught up in any investigation on this matter. If investigated by Congress, it wouldn’t matter, as Congressman DeSaulnier is the Ranking-Member on the Ethics Committee.

Mark how you’re still in office is an anomaly. nobody likes or respects anything you say or do. Stop wasting our Oxygen and shut it!!!

USA JIM,
.
Congressman Mark DeSaulnier is able to win reelection every cycle simply because he lives in California’s 10th Congressional District and is a Democrat, if he was still a Republican he would’ve been voted out of office two decades ago. It was Republican voters who first put him into office in 1991 and kept reelecting him in subsequent elections until he switched parties in 2000. He’s won reelection to Congress with 66% – 79% of the vote, his reelection in 2024 was the lowest vote percentage he’s received in his Congressional career.

I, for one, no longer look at any posts Mark’s involved in. He’s an idiot and a Democratic blowhole! He never produces any legislation that benefits the people of Contra Costa County and does nothing but spew the left’s talking points. I just couldn’t resist looking at this one since it involved “fact-checking”!

Mark,
.
You’re exhausting!
