California Gas Prices Dip To Start 2026 As National Average Hits Multi-Year Low

The new year is starting with a slight drop in California gas prices, which fell three cents from last week to an average of $4.23 per gallon for regular gasoline. That price is also 15 cents lower than it was at the same time last year.

Nationally, 2026 is off to its lowest gas price average in years, with regular gasoline averaging $2.81 per gallon. The last time drivers across the country paid prices this low was in March 2021.

Crude oil prices have remained relatively steady since the end of 2025 and have not been significantly affected by ongoing questions surrounding Venezuela’s role in the oil market. Global oil supplies remain strong, and OPEC+, the coalition of oil-exporting countries, has indicated it does not plan to increase production during the first quarter of 2026 due to lower demand.

Around California, average gas prices vary by region, with San Francisco at $4.27 per gallon, Oakland at $4.19, San Jose at $4.10, Sacramento at $4.08, Fresno at $4.13, and Stockton at $3.91.

New data from the Energy Information Administration shows gasoline demand declined last week, falling from 8.56 million barrels per day to 8.17 million. At the same time, total domestic gasoline supplies increased from 234.3 million barrels to 242 million. Gasoline production also edged lower, averaging about 9.0 million barrels per day.

nusum is hell bent on making California a fuel free society.
Closing refineries, banning natural gas, doing anything he can to keep this state on track to becoming another destitute, crime-ridden, corrupt, and insolvent third-world cesspool.

Will they ever do away with the 9/10 of a cent on a gallon of gas? It’s a marketing gimmick to
fool people into thinking a gallon cost $4.23 when it actually costs $4.24.

Multi-year low while still about 47% higher than the rest of the country despite Newsom’s campaign promises to bring parity to CA with the rest of the rest of the nation? no big yay here

Buc-ee’s in Johnstown, CO has gas for less than $2 per gallon. WTF is wrong with you, California?

Bless y’alls hearts, I can get gas for $2.24 where I am now living.
