QUESTION: Do you believe time travel could ever exist?

It does exist. Every millisecond, we are traveling into the future. Another way to
travel through time is by crossing the International Date Line. Traveling east results
in one day being subtracted, while traveling west, results in one day being added.
Space travel is a way of traveling through time also, astronauts seem to age slower
in space.

Well put. The closer a traveler gets to the speed of light the slower time progresses for them.

Time progresses the same for everybody without regard to their speed.

Time slows as you speed up, RELATIVE TO SOMEONE GOING SLOWER. The fast guy and the slow guy perceive time normally, but the fast guy ages faster relative to the slow guy. If there is more than one fast guy, they age the same as each other but age slower relative to the slow guy.

This is one part of Einstein’s E=MC2 equation, and the reason that it’s called the Theory of Relativity.

Time “slowing” also seems to happen the higher the gravitational pull.

Only in fantasy, unless you define your Swatch (talk about time travel) going from Concord to Los Angeles as time travel.

Linear time does not exist. Ergo, the question of time travel is moot. Inter-dimensional travel does exist.

I did it today.
I traveled home from the hardware store in 25 minutes.

If you were driving a DeLorean equipped with a flux capacitor, you could have gotten there
in a nanosecond.

No, because the Earth would have moved and you’d materialize somewhere in space.

My Timex stoped once in 1974, found it in a shoebox and had to move day/month and year ahead 4 years. Yes it exists for those who walk among is unseen.

OK…. seriously now.
The human mind can’t comprehend how the universe goes on forever and ever and has no end …… so those of you who have figured out how that works, would you please explain to the rest of us about how time travel can’t possibly exist?

Anything can exist, if you believe.

Just ask Doug & Tony.

The Time Tunnel, Really…

I guess it depends on what you mean by time travel.

Time is relative to the observer’s perspective.

As other have pointed out, to a Traveler in a spacecraft moving close to the speed of light, the time on Earth is speeding up. From Earth perspective time on the spacecraft is slowing down. From their perspective relative to their own locations, time is moving normally – that is to say to the Traveler on the spacecraft time is moving normally and to people on earth time is moving normally.

The whole HG Well’s Time Machine going back in time, going to the future then returning to where you started is pure science fiction (so far).

Time travel is really a one-way street. The Traveler could return home having experienced time more slowly and aging significantly less than on earth, were decades or centuries may have passed, due to time dilation (Twin Paradox). They would return to an earth where the technology they used in the space ship would have been rendered obsolete, they would know no one and society itself would have changed (assuming the Earth still existed).

I will respectfully pass on any time travel opportunities, thank you very much.

I also would not use the Star Trek transporter either . . .

“I also would not use the Star Trek Transporter either…”

What about the one from The Fly?

I assume you really want to talk about the Identity question and not the plot device/MacGuffin from either shows. I have not watched The Fly in so long I barely remember it.

Is the reassembled person actually “me” or a copy of “me” and what happened to the original “me” that got broken down and reassembled?

Since I would not use a transporter, I think the original me dies and I would be replaced by an exact duplicate upon reassembly.

I might not notice a difference but I would know there is a difference.

I just need 5 minutes one day into the future to check the Lotto numbers.

Sorry Doc but you are not going to get rich by time travel fraud. It doesn’t appear, at least as we understand it now, that you can travel backward in time so don’t cancel those proctology appointments! LOL

According to Einstein’s “Relativity”. All time (past, present, and future) exists at once so yes you can travel in time. But it would require all of the energy in the universe so it’s not gonna happen.

Time is a spherical constant inside a mobius vortex. So within that framework it’s possible but not probable.

Possible but not likely due to the Energy required to do it.

yes….by so-called “worm-holes” or warps in time / space – but we’re far from it ….singularity will probably overtake us first
