San Francisco Immigration Court Operations to Shift to Concord – Source: San Francisco Chronicle
Operations from San Francisco’s main immigration court are expected to shift to the federal courthouse in Concord as early as this summer, ahead of the planned closure of the court’s primary San Francisco location next year, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The immigration court does not plan to renew its lease at the 100 Montgomery Street building when it expires in January, prompting plans to relocate staff and court functions to the federal court in Concord, the source said. The court’s second San Francisco site at 630 Sansome Street, a federally owned building, is expected to remain open.
Court staff were informed of the planned move on Tuesday, according to the source, who was not authorized to speak publicly and was granted anonymity under Chronicle policy.
The reason for closing the Montgomery Street location remains unclear. The Executive Office for Immigration Review, which operates under the U.S. Department of Justice, did not respond to requests for comment. The planned closure was first reported by Mission Local.
The shift to Concord comes amid a significant staffing shortage at the San Francisco immigration court. Last year, the Trump administration dismissed 12 judges from the court. Three more judges retired last month, and another is set to retire by the end of this month, leaving just four judges to manage cases at one of the busiest immigration courts in the country as the federal government moves to speed up deportation proceedings.

This building has been doing federal immigration courts for at least 6 months already and being used as holding facilities as well. I’ve seen protestors wagging their armpits at passing cars there as well for months. This news is old it’s already implemented.

Wrong!!! This isn’t old news, unless you consider news that came out within the last week to be old news. You’re conflating the operation of an existing court in Concord with the closing, relocation, and merger of operations of another court to Concord as the same thing. The Concord Immigration Court opened 2-years ago. The Main Immigration Court in San Francisco is closing this year, sometime between June and December. The operations of the Main Immigration Court in San Francisco will be transferring to Concord, thereby increasing the presence of everything that goes along with having an Immigration Court in Concord.

If we really want to “save innocent lives” like Renee Good and keep ICE out of residential neighborhoods, immigration warrants and holds for illegal aliens on behalf of ICE should be respected and encouraged by other law enforcement agencies. By refusing routine cooperation with ICE and prioritizing the protection of illegal immigrants over public safety and the rule of law we are putting Citizens and Legal Residents at risk. Why do these “Leftists” concern themselves with protecting lawbreaking criminals? We need to raise up and insist on getting these criminals outta here. Why does it matter if the Court is in San Francisco or Concord or is this just a case of NIMBY?
Where? Go to school and learn how the USA is nation of laws. It’s also a nation where we can make change through a political process. Protesting is basically little more than complaining . It usually goes nowhere and makes the participants look like angry children.
