Police are warning parents and residents about a social media trend they say is spreading locally and could put young people in danger.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Alameda Police Department said the trend, known online as the “Door Kick Challenge,” involves youths forcefully kicking or banging on front doors and then running away.
Most of the cases happened late at night, between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. In some cases, those involved were wearing face coverings, adding to the fear and confusion of homeowners who did not know their intentions.
Police said what some may see as a prank can have serious consequences. In some communities, similar cases have ended badly when participants were mistaken for intruders and confronted by homeowners.
They urged parents and guardians to talk with their children about the risks, including possible legal trouble, property damage and dangerous encounters.
Don’t do it! The homeowner may invoke the “Castle Doctrine”
Well that’s a good way to have a catastrophic (or worse) injury …. how stupid can you be? smh
“FAFO” explains consequences in our neighborhood.
Wow.
Maybe if we start a tic Toc play on the freeway challenge, we can clean up tbe genepool
Don’t these morons have anything better to do? Poor parenting and social media are a serious problem today.
I know what I would want to do if someone, anyone, kicked in my front door.
FAFO!
Homeowners should NEVER be prosecuted for protecting their families or themselves.
It would be a massive mistake if anyone were to try that at our residence…
Out where I live, people answer the door with the knob in one hand and a pistol in the other.
Simple solution to this problem:
Kids need to be outside playing and having fun. Cell phones and social media has really killed society. Miss the good old days when I was a kid and playing sports and spending time with friends and family.
good way to get dead. Re#ards…. doing something that is known to have consequences. Although I think this is simply “click-bait” to get people stirred up…. good way to get a UPS driver dead. so stupid
This happened to me a few years back. Very startling. Kids don’t stick around long enough to get shot. Similar to Ding-Dong-Ditch when I was growing up.
kicking and pounding on the door like your trying to break in is not at all similar or the same thing as knocking or ringing the doorbell and running away…
