Congressman Mark DeSaulnier has introduced a bill to name the Concord Main Post Office located at 2121 Meridian Park Boulevard and Galaxy Way for former Concord car salesman and dealership owner Carl Edson Jefferson Jr.

Just Jazzing up the name of the Post Office ?
A bit confused. Is there something wrong with being a bartender or a car salesman – or with a public official suggesting a name for a post office? I am curious, since I don’t follow much of any politics (maybe should);
A waste of taxpayers money! Renaming of buildings, streets and parks should only happen with private funding and ten years after persons death, then we’ll see how endearing these people really are.
I never said there was anything wrong with being a bartender or a car salesman. Mark DeSaulnier didn’t suggest a name for the Concord Main Post Office, he introduced legislation to name it after someone, that’s much more than a suggestion. He didn’t come to Concord for one of his famous townhall meetings to ask residents what they thought of naming the post office for Carl Edson Jefferson Jr., or if the public had other suggestions. I simply don’t believe that our Bartender Congressman should be using his elected position to name a Concord Post Office after his long dead friend, a car salesman. Concord has existed for almost 160 years, it has 16 decades of history, and the best person our Bartender Congressman can think of to name a US Post Office for is a car salesman. I find that to be problematic and unacceptable! Yes, you should pay attention to politics, almost exclusively to local politics.
Sad, voters don’t demand better democrat candidates.
Then again California usually vote for whichever side
spends the most on advertising..
As usual, my better half brought up a factor that hadn’t occurred to me, and that I didn’t pay attention to in STK’s postings: there would be little or no controversy over naming the Concord main post office after a respected (?) person in Concord or local history IF there had been notice, an invitation to submit names, and open discussion, either in a gathering or online or both. Otherwise, as far as STK indicated, we have been left with a done deal as far as the community having any say in the matter. Those who don’t care about such things don’t have to participate, but a lot of people do care.
I admit that I’ve never paid any attention to the only name submitted. When things are dictated to the community that could easily have been publicly discussed, we are left with thrashing out issues among ourselves as best we can. As someone who grew up in Claycord, I agree with STK that we have a long and storied history, contributed to by everyone from coal miners, to military heroes, gifted and beloved teachers, dedicated gardeners, historical figures, and so many more: you name it. So, the community should have had a voice in naming the post office. Thanks to all for your comments – and thanks to Claycord for providing a forum.
He was the founder of Concord Jazz, was pivotal in the industry, and helped build the Concord Pavilion.
How do you define, “helped build the Concord Pavilion?” Was he out there swinging a hammer, pouring cement, laying sod? Did he donate the land for the Pavilion? Or do you mean he verbally supported the building of the Pavilion for his own financial gain? HE WAS A CAR SALESMAN WHO SOLD MANY LEMONS!!!!!!!!!
You mean he helped build the “Toyota Pavilion At Concord”
A fine tribute to a Lincoln & Mercury car salesman.
Funny I don’t see any Jazz on the Toyota PAC schedule….
Oh well, everybody back off & let the esteemed congressman do his important (?) work.
To piggy back on your comment, Concord Jazz is a revered jazz music label and has been for the past 57 years. If it weren’t for the label and its partner music festival, there would be no Concord Pavillion.
Your comment says absolutely nothing about the man, absolutely nothing about Carl Jefferson! You believe a “revered jazz music label” is worth naming a post office after someone? The “Concord” label has had nothing to do with Concord in almost 25 years other than sharing a name. The Concord Jazz Festival has been dead for over 20 years due to dwindling attendance with the exception of a one-time only revival for a 50th anniversary concert in 2019. Concord Jazz Records was sold over 30 years ago. Jefferson Motors ceased to exist 45 years ago. Carl Jefferson has been gone for 30 years. The Concord Pavillion would’ve been built with or without Carl Jefferson’s verbal support. You should be looking at the type of man Carl Jefferson was and not judging him solely on creating a record label and music festival.

Headline “Trump threatens new tariffs on European allies over Greenland”
In other words give Trump Greenland or he will raise taxes on the American people.
Or…. we could just buy American made products.
Unless you’re such an un-American Leftist that even the slightest patriotic action disgusts you (and you don’t belong here IMHO).
So you don’t believe in free speech or public discourse of differing opinions. But you do support a man who incited a riot on 1/6/21 after losing the election.
doh, Posting on Claycord IS free speech and public discourse of differing opinions.
You know nothing & prove it every time you post… now you mimic JWB who always told everybody “So, you believe blah, blah, blah” (such a tired routine).
Why don’t you just stick to plagiarism or better yet, throw in the towel and go away like John Wilkes Booth did? Or do you like holding the record for thumbs downs?
It properly not surprising to commenters here that I have strong feelings about this. Greenlanders does not want to be part of the US. Denmark feel betrayed, we had more soldiers killed per capita, other than the US, in Afghanistan. We also fought in Iraq. Denmark has been very pro US for decades. In the hills in Northern Jutland, Rebild Festival) every 4th of July there’s a celebration of US’s Independence Day, has been since 1912, it is the biggest celebration of July 4th, outside of the US. Each country should be able to determine their faith, without interference from outsiders. If the US is taking over Greenland will Trump give them the same benefit they enjoy being part of Denmark? Affordable health care (it is not free, despite what some think, same for education). I doubt it and of course it wouldn’t be fair to US citizen, if they get it and we don’t. Denmark and Greenland are willing to lt the US have more troops, basically anything they want, why is that not enough.?
Denmark lost 44 soldiers in Afghanistan and 8 in Iraq for a total of 52.
*
2,459 U.S. troops died in Afghanistan.
4,424 U.S. troops died in Iraq.
“Denmark and Greenland are willing to let the US have more troops, basically anything they want, why is that not enough?”
*
Well Hanne ….. apparently it is enough.
Trump always asks for 5X as much as he wants or expects to get so that when he makes concessions the other team thinks it has won by denying him something…. it’s like selling a used car.
Aside from all the drama, the USA has had an agreement with Denmark since 1951 to place as much military presence on Greenland as needed but a 2004 agreement specified the USA must consult Copenhagen before making significant changes…. it looks like all that has been agreed to be settled soon and statehood is off the board.
I can understand the people who actually live in Greenland (all 56,000 of them) are fiercely prideful and patriotic and don’t wish to become part of the USA.
It WAS an incredible opportunity that I’m sure many of them will regret passing up (they had been offered $100,000 per person) but that generous offer proved to be unnecessary…. plus, there are a lot of perks to being a United States citizen…. 20 million illegal aliens can’t be wrong.

Totally outstanding!. Gov. DeSantis went on to say that Florida wasn’t Minneapolis….attacks on law enforcement won’t be tolerated. Floridians are so fortunate to have Ron DeSantis as their governor.
Strange, violence and anti government behavior seems to be
most prevalent in cities and states under democrat control.

What in the hell is “anti government behavior?” When did conservatives switch from Reagan’s mantra of the nine most terrifying words in the English language are I’m from the government and I’m here to help to being embarrassing tread-on-me-harder-big-government-daddy bootlickers?
When did Hopeless become a bootlicker for all the rapists, murderers, drug dealers, reckless truck drivers, child molesters, human traffickers, arsonists, fraudsters, gang-bangers, and other assorted felons that have invaded our country?
Well, let me change from
“anti government behavior” to

Rumor has it questions for the upcoming California gubernatorial debate have been leaked.
First question for Swalwell:
“How many wheels on a tricycle?”
That’s actually a substitute question. The original question was:
”What is your home address?”
Second question,
how’s Fang Fang doing ? ? ?
Curiously, Swalwell has requested all questions be asked in mandarin………..
That’ll get 12 points, haven’t laughed that hard in weeks.
Well done !
Did you know there are over 46,000 Chinese citizens working in the USA and their children born here are US citizens? They don’t all stay here tho… many are sent to China to be raised and educated until they are old enough to vote in American elections and trained to do “other things” then they come back to the USA.
