Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year. Born in 1929, King’s actual birthday is January 15 (which in 1929 fell on a Tuesday).
King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King’s honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

Funny how holidays aren’t really much of a holiday because everything has to be open. If it is a holiday all should have it off and all businesses should be closed so EVERYBODY can enjoy the holiday.
He was a horrible man that said some good things.
Ever see that animated “The Boondocks” episode “Return of the King”? (MLK).
I accidentally stumbled upon that online and was kinda shocked…. mostly because it was originally shown on the Cartoon Network and actually won a Peabody Award in 2006.
I know it pissed off Al Sharpton.
I didn’t include a link but it’s easy to find online if you are curious.
Agreed. The creator, Aaron MacGruder, has an incredibly sharp perspective.
