Two boys from Oakley were arrested Monday on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping, according to police.

Just after 1 p.m., officers arrived at East Cypress Road and Frank Hengel Way in Oakley and found multiple juveniles at the corner of Rubens Way and East Cypress Road. One of the boys had a grazing head wound caused by a gunshot, according to police.

Investigators believe a group of three Oakley residents, including a male, female and a juvenile female, picked up to juvenile males, also from Oakley. The five of them began hanging out at Cypress Grove Park in a car belonging to one of the females.

The two boys who had been picked up became angry when no one would take them to buy cannabis. A third male got out of the car, leaving the two females inside. At that point, the two boys allegedly forced the females to drive away at gunpoint. The driver went down Rubens Way but then refused to drive any further. She and the other girl were then allegedly forced out of the car at gunpoint; then the two boys took off in the car toward East Cypress Road.

According to police, the male victim, who had previously exited the vehicle, saw everything that was going on and ran towards the fleeing suspects and caught up to them at the intersection of Frank Hengel and East Cypress.

One of the boy suspects allegedly shot at the male through the windshield several times and struck him in the head with the grazing shot. He was treated at the hospital and released. The two boys then fled the scene and got on state Highway 4.

A deputy with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office saw the vehicle the suspects were in speeding westbound on Highway 4. A pursuit was initiated all the way into Orinda, ending when the suspects’ car became disabled on state Highway 24.

Both boys were arrested and taken back to the Oakley Police Department, where it was determined there were warrants out for their arrest. They were booked into juvenile hall for the warrants and on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking and kidnapping.

Try them as adults. Commit adult crimes, face the music as an adult.

Agree! But it won’t happen here in California. These underage kids are totally shielded and forgiven of having any consequences.

Well, maybe they can get some “cannabis” in Juvi…. I know they smuggle cigarettes in all the time.

Why would anyone have a problem with these little darlings? Bection do the right thing and let them go free. (Sarc. There are a lot of people around that just don’t get it!)

Hmm. Two juveniles from Oakley heading heading west trying to evade the cops. Could be these two were heading to Oakland before having their vehicle disabled. I’m thinking there’s more to this story and hopefully law enforcement will obtain some useful information. These kids probably knew people in Oakland to potentially hide them out.
