QUESTION: Do you think the issue with Greenland is more about national security or natural resources for the U.S.?

Probably both seems like a win win for both sides

seems like a trolling exercise to me. Threaten to take it to force the others to up their military presence without always depending on us for it so adversaries don’t establish a foothold. just an opinion from an old lunatic.

Neither. Trump just said in an interview on Wednesday to the NYT that he wants ‘ownership’ of Greenland because it’s ’psychologically important to me’. Not ‘important for US citizens’. It’s important to Trump and his psychology. Let that sink in.

From the Trump speech in Davos this morning “We probably won’t get anything unless I decide to use excessive force, we’d be unstoppable, but we won’t do that.”
Trump further clarified: “I don’t have to use force, I don’t want to use force, I won’t use force.”
Troll Baby Troll, so you can show who the unhinged ones really are.

Anoyher Trump announcement from Davos “Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region,” …“This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st,” Leftists Trolled Again! A Little TDS here?

It’s all about Trump’s ego. I’m sure he will rename Greenland after himself, if he succeeds in taking it.

23

Neither. Trump just wants to inflict anxiety because he was snubbed for the Nobel peace prize.

Trump doesn’t have to inflict anything other than TDS for inflicting massive mental breakdowns.

For both reasons, isn’t that why we bought Alaska? Alaska was purchased partly
to keep the British from establishing a North American territory, its geographical
location helped the US in becoming a Pacific power. Alaska’s purchase paid off
well for the US, Alaska is rich in oil, gold, fur, fish, lumber, and minerals.
We bought the Louisiana Territory from France for national security also. It enabled
us to take control of the trade market. By controlling the Port of New Orleans and the Mississippi River, we were able to prevent conflict with France.
The Oregon Territory was acquired for the same reasons. It provided fertile soil for
farming, and we were able to establish western ports for easy access to Alaska.
We also acquired California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. It enabled
us to expand the railroad, which was strategically and economically crucial. The US
paid Mexico a total of $25 million and assumed over $3.5 million in debts that was
owed to Americans. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and the Gadsden Purchase, made it all possible. All it takes is a little, persuasion, negotiations and cash.

Don’t care ain’t gonna affect me either way.

Remember, Trump had a book and game called “The Art of the Deal”. He is playing things that way. I didn’t read the book but I did buy the game for friends who always beat me at Monopoly but I beat them at “The Art of the Deal”. Sometimes it’s good to think of this current administration as another season of “The Apprentice”.

8

And sometimes I think he’s taken the idea of the North American Union (NAU) and wants to expand it to the Western American Union (WAU), all the countries in the western hemisphere

Trump has publicly said the Greenland fiasco is happening because he did not win the Nobel Peace Prize.

A disease I do not have.
Actually,Trump said exactly that. The President of Norway confirmed it and Trump is not denying it.

Oh yes, you do!

Peter, Trump talked about buying Greenland in 2019, years before the Nobel Peace
Prize was an issue.

16

Dawg, Trump said it this weekend and the President of Norway confirmed it. and Trump is not denying it.

Who cares Peter does this affect your life in any way shape or form? Little tip no it doesn’t…

“End of story” That’s how lefties say “That’s all I got”

Peter is just following the instructions in the “Liberalism for Dummies” how to book that instructs “Only present part of the story to take quotes out of context and mislead readers”
*
“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Trump said.
“The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”

Thank you for freely admitting my entire comment is 100% true.

I can post the President’s quote for you but I can not understand it for you…
Try reading it again before you toke up.

TDS!!! You don’t want to understand. You are a tool and have been totally Trolled.

Peter,
.
The Nobel Peace Prize nominations have to be submitted by January 31st of each year. President Trump was in office for 11-1/2 days by the time of the closing of the 2025 nomination period, yet, he did receive at least 6 Nobel Peace Prize nominations for the 2025 award. He should really wait to see who the 2026 winners are. I don’t really understand why President Trump has shown interest in the Nobel Peace Prize given that it’s lost its luster after former Vice President Al Gore and President Barack Obama won their prizes.

Neither really – more about ego, bullying, and bellicose behavior …. if Greenlanders & Denmark really WANTED to be part of the US then fine… but obviously that isn’t the case. Putin & Xi must be laughing their behinds off at “his” behavior & forcing tariffs to acquire it is crazy!

19

A question for the question, …
Would or could we be at the mercy of China or Russia if they control Greenland?
I worry about that for the future Generations here in the USA.

“Strategic experts are warning that the Poseidon torpedo would have
the potential to devastate a coastal city, cause radioactive floods, and
result in millions of deaths.”
https://tinyurl.com/2ptjwp6n from Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists
.
May have noticed, no press releases given out when we
lose track of one of Russia’s Northern Fleet subs, off Greenland.
.
Poseidon torpedo, to me, sounds like it might qualify as a
First Strike Weapon. By all means liberals, discount the threat.

MAUI LOVES TRUMP !!!!!! Take Greenland NOW!!!! DEI and WOKE gone forever !!!!!!

Sarcasism?

Who cares if it is or isn’t and not like it’s not true!

Ultimately, national security. The natural resources there are part of national security. Better for us to have “control” in our hands rather than in, say, China or Russia.

8
2

Do the people who support Trump’s moronic attempt to take over all of Greenland understand we already have military bases there? Trump has destroyed what was a good relationship.

10
9

John S,
.
The relationship between the U.S. and Denmark and Greenland hasn’t been a good relationship, it’s been a one sided relationship benefiting Denmark and Greenland.

It is about both.

Greenland is a strategic locations. It and Iceland are key to detecting and tracking Russian subs and surface vessels. The thinking is that either China or Russia could take Greenland in 10 minutes should war break out. This would give them a nearby base to shoot missiles with impunity and give their navies free travel into the Atlantic.

The natural resources that Greenland possesses (rare earths) is the main thing that he’s after. Currently, China controls the world’s rare earths. They have the biggest deposits and control most of the processing. I believe that this is his main reason for wanting Greenland.

Taking control of the rare earths denies them to adversarial governments and virtually eliminates China’s stranglehold. Simply put, more for US and its allies, and less for China. And we will have increased our national security by eliminating our reliance on China.

This is pretty much the same reason why we took out Maduro. The guy was bad news and needed to go. The drug issue was a somewhat legitimate reason to do it. But strategically, gaining some control in Venezuela eliminates the main source of oil and oil revenue for China, Russia, Iran, and Cuba.

Trump’s reasoning for needing Greenland is sound, but he has done a piss poor job of selling the concept to the public. Bullying and threats to an ally look really bad and probably won’t work.

How about something like a 99 yr lease to run Greenland and split the natural resource profits? We gain control, Europe retains ownership, China gets screwed, and everybody makes money.

You’re aware of the fact that Greenland is already protected by NATO, right?

4
4

No kidding.

It is a very big place. Nobody lives there. Pretty easy to occupy and establish bases IN TIME OF AGGRESSION.
NATO or not, it’s easy pickings if things get nasty.

But again, the main reason is the rare earths. The location concerns are valid but it is really about thwarting China’s stranglehold and allowing us a friendly alternative.

You saying in a previous post that we have bases in Greenland was kind of correct. We have 1 base with 150 personnel. It is just an early warning base with big radars.

NATO what a joke they will crumble without our money!

Well well well looks like if the current reports are true Trump will soon be king of Greenland! Long live the king! All hail your majesty!!! Reports state that negotitations are currently under way with JD Vance, Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff handling these duties. All you TDS cry babies can now commence Reeeeeeeeeeing at the top of your lungs!

Trump’s latest move involving Greenland is to agree to a deal that has been on the books since the fifties.
Trump was forced to take his pathetic tariff threats off the table.

He wasn’t forced to do anything let alone pull his great tariff plan off the table. They have been a nice hammer to show other countries that have been taking advantage of the US we are not playing anymore! Sounds like you are angry because he has the cajones to put the US first and that is all you should be worried about!

The threat of tariffs is what brought Europe to the table for talks. Sounds like the pathetic tariff threat served its purpose.
Gnashing one’s teeth and stomping one’s feet because of TDS is not a healthy way to live.

The issue with Greenland is not only about security and resources, but it’s also a family dispute between President Donald Trump and his cousin, King Frederick X of Denmark.
