Contra Costa County Fire Chief Lewis Broschard Announces Retirement

After 18 years, Fire Chief Lewis Broschard announced his retirement from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

“Serving as fire chief for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has been the greatest honor of my career,” said Chief Broschard in a news release. “I am incredibly proud of the members of this organization and grateful for the trust and support of the community, our Board of Supervisors, and the County Administrator’s Office. I leave knowing the district is positioned for continued success.”

Under Broschard’s leadership, the fire district also called Con Fire significantly expanded its operations. In 2022, the agency absorbed the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and the Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection District. In 2023, the city of Pinole contracted with Con Fire to provide fire and emergency medical services.

The agency’s Insurance Services Office rating — a measure of community fire protection — also improved during his tenure.

Broschard’s last day of service will be March 30. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District will release additional information about the selection process for his successor at a later time.

Dor’s he get to “Spike” his pension, so he gets more in retirement than when he was working?

I’m sure his pension will be crazy. Here is info from 2023 and a few years earlier.

Hope he makes a bunch of noise about the enviro wacko’s blocking good forest management practices. Like them stopping the planned controlled burn by Blackhawk.

Battalion Chief Kevin Platt would be the ideal natural successor.
