A DUI driver was arrested after crashing into a building in downtown Lafayette.
Early this morning, Saturday, January 24, 2026, at approximately 20 minutes after midnight, Lafayette PD Officers were dispatched to a vehicle that had crashed into a vacant building at the intersection of Mt. Diablo Blvd and Moraga Rd. Officers arrived on scene, contacted the driver, and subsequently arrested him for driving under the influence.
This incident is a reminder to plan ahead and use a designated driver or a rideshare if you’ve been drinking.
If you see something, say something. Call 9-1-1 for emergencies, or 925-284-5010 for non-emergencies.
You can’t park there
That’s a lot of damage to that Rivian, just how fast was he driving?
Alex Soros affiliates owned over $2 billion in Rivian stock, and they lost a boatload of money on it over the last four years.
They keep reporting the company will be profitable in two years. Without Amazon and Soros they’d be doomed. They recently recalled 20K vehicles for rear suspension link problems. Hmm, maybe this guy wasn’t as drunk as we thought, but then again, alcohol and poor suspension design are a dangerous combination.
Aren’t these things suppose to auto brake? My F-150 does…”freaks me out”
You can easily turn off. What you cantvrurn off is driver stupidity for DUI and buying any EV.
I think you might be right.
Hopefully the block gets rezoned for condos. Too many empty store fronts and not enough residential units make downtown feel blighted.
Well I hope he was drunk.
It would be mighty embarrassing to do something that stupid when you’re sober.
I was ubering home from Lafayette around that time, glad I didn’t cross paths with him/her.
