Local California Lawmaker Introduces Bill To Bar Former ICE Employees From Public Safety, Teaching Jobs

Assemblymember Anamarie Avila Farias (D-Martinez) announced the introduction of new legislation that would bar former employees of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from working as peace officers or public-school teachers in California.

The proposal, AB 1627, formally titled the Misconduct Ends Law-Enforcement Trust Act of 2026, would disqualify individuals previously employed by ICE — as well as two other federal agencies cited in the bill — from holding certain public positions in the state. Avila Farias said the measure is intended to protect communities, classrooms, and public institutions by ensuring that those entrusted with authority uphold constitutional rights and due process.

In a statement, Avila Farias alleged that ICE operations in California since 2025 have involved excessive force, unlawful arrests, and civil-rights violations, including the detention of individuals without charges. She argued that such practices undermine public trust and conflict with standards California has established for law enforcement and public educators.

“California’s peace officers and teachers must be guardians of constitutional rights,” Avila Farias said in the release. “Public service requires integrity, restraint, and respect for due process.”

Avila Farias also said the bill is meant to preserve gains made by state and local law enforcement agencies over the past several decades in improving accountability and community trust.

AB 1627 is expected to be heard in a legislative committee later this spring.

Let’s be like Seattle and have a summer of love.
no police zone and we we all police ourselves

Another move by the democrats that explicitly demonstrates how they support and enable criminal activities, and how they despise the laws of our country and honest law abiding citizens.

Naw. That is just wrong. Discrimination. Kill that bill now.

She needs to be voted out of office next time! She is not representing her constituents, the people of this area! Period.

BTW: ICE is not arresting 5 year old kids or 80 year old grandmas! Those are lies of the left! ICE is arresting murderers, rapists, drug dealers! Funny, how the democrats and the liberal left were totally silent during Obama’s administration when he deported 3 million illegal aliens. They didn’t say a word! Why is that?

Because President Obama did it without kidnapping people and killing innocent Americans.

Better do a little more research.

That’s (D)ifferent

The insanity continues. I think Anamarie should immediately be tested for inadequate lobe circulation. Something isn’t working correctly up there in cranium world. I’m sure if something like this was to pass muster in Sacramento clown world the lawsuits would come rolling in. Every time I witness this type of nonsense, I think there’s no way it can get any more ridiculous and then it does. Crazy times!

An example of attention seeking petty vindictiveness from a
marginalized climber, dreaming of higher office ? ? ?
.
Possibly, fear years of educational indoctrination being undone
by relating of experiential knowledge and reality ? ? ?
.
If passed, would likely not survive a Court challenge.

She suggests public service requires integrity?

The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) prohibits public employers from discriminating based on specific protected characteristics, including military/veteran status, age, race, and disability. While “prior federal employment” is not explicitly listed as a protected characteristic, a “black-balling” scheme that is actually based on a protected characteristic (e.g., age or military status) is illegal.
BLACK-LISTING is also illegal under Under California Labor Code § 1050.
This little Che-wanna-be needs a little bit of come-up-pance.

Hawaii loves ICE !!! I’d rather work a long side a former Ice Agent than a Ca County DEI HIRE any day!

Sounds like discrimination to me. Isn’t that what the “Left” is try to stop and get here they are trying to enact laws for it? Hmmmm

How much of a dumb liberal moron can you be?? This person needs to be voted out of office!!

It is amazing how petty these people are. How the hell was this emotional baggage ever elected…

I have no words for how idiotic this proposed bill is. Hopefully we will see other states bar any public employee from California barred from holding a public job in their state, especially teachers, to avoid this nonsense spreading across the country.

That’s the most asinine legislative proposal ever.

Makes a lot of sense. Bar people based on WOKE values regardless of their qualifications. Believe me when I say, it is VERY hard to get quality people to enter law enforcement these days. Let’s stack the deck against those with experience and knowledge in the field. You go, girl!!

That is absurd, these employess are following rules and laws regarding immigration enforcement. I knew she was a waste of a vote when I read up on her prior to this most recent election. How about you keep doctors from practicing again because they mutilated a minor for “re-affirming” surgery or how about you relieve these individuals of their medical certification that are posting on social media to let “certain” people die and go untreated. She is a disgrace and should be recalled.

The big question is why do liberal democrats always support criminals and lawlessness? They encourage rioting, hate and violence. Remember this whole mess was created by the Biden administration and all the Democrats that supported him. Democrats like her never mention the hundreds of billions of dollars it costs the hard-working Americans every year to support all the illegal aliens that they love so much. Just think of how much good that money would do for our schools or roads. our Vets, our hospitals. Wake up people, the democrats don’t care about that stuff.

Wow … way to go. Brand the whole agency based on the acts of a few. Kinda sounds like racism, you know all blacks/whites/browns are bad because of something.

All whites are bad because they owned slaves 150 ago or are members of the KKK.
All browns are bad becasue they must have come here illegally.
All blacks are bad because they steal/loot.

So, I get it, this politician is trying to dismiss an entire group of peopel based on a stereotype. This tool is an idiot at best! We need to hire the best fit for our organization regardless of color, sex, orientation etc .. This politician is contuing to contribute to discrimination and how many of you will fall for it?

Discrimination based on prior employment? See you in court Ms. Faria.

This bill would ban those individuals who were employed by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement between September 1, 2025, and January 20, 2029, or the Alabama Department of Corrections or the Georgia Department of Corrections between January 1, 2020, and January 1, 2026.

This sounds like legislation that would have been proposed in the 1960’s barring Vietnam Vets from public employment. I thought we learned this lesson already, not to confuse the war with the warrior.

That doesn’t sound legal at all. Great attention grab though.

Was there ever any doubt that this is the kind of business this woman would do? The blame for this kind of stupidity lies squarely on those who cast their vote for her.

Barring people from employment as a class (e.g., “former I.C.E.”) is unfair. Why not just do due diligence in processing individual applications, like with anyone else? A face to face interview can clear up a lot of questions. Also, what is the applicant’s criminal history, if any? The hiring process should focus on the applicant, their character, and their record and anything else legal and relevant to that applicant’s fitness for the job in question. Dangerous and muddy waters when blanket, generalized bans take hold.

what a waste of time and money……and it’ll never be a thing

Oh, that harpy?

Assemblymember Anamarie Avila Farias is up for reelection this year, you’ll have your chance to vote her out in the June primary and in the November election, if she happens to survive the June primary.

This lawmaker is out of her mind. If the ICE officers are doing unconstitutional things, sue them, and let the courts figure it out. It’s not your job to try to bar them from future employment for things they have not been convicted in court for. Rep. Avila should be recalled, as she just showed her complete lack of knowledge of the Constitution. I voted for her in the last election. Never again.

Lol isnt that hilarious illegal
