Over the past week, members of the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad had the honor of joining several of our local, state, and federal partners in providing safety and service to the NFL’s Super Bowl Festivities hosted in San Francisco. The Walnut Creek Police Department team, which included K9 Lucky (who is trained in detecting explosives), was tasked with achieving our number one goal: ensuring the safety of all who were in attendance at this year’s amazing events.

Did the NFL pay the bill??

It would appear the cost was covered by something called the BAHC (Bay Area Host Committee).

BAHC reimbursed the city of Santa Clara about $6.4 million for policing and other services tied to the Super Bowl.

BAHC primarily funds its operations and event hosting through a combination of corporate sponsorships (NBC Sports, PNC Bank), philanthropic donations (NFL Foundation) and private partnerships with professional sports teams like the (49ers, Giants, Sharks, Earthquakes and Bay FC). Key founding partners include Boston Consulting Group, EA Sports, Kaiser and Genentech.

If fundraising falls short for major events, the San Francisco 49ers stadium company is structured to cover the shortfall.

Impressed and Thankful for the task these dogs are trained to do.
Good Job K9 Lucky!
