Very cold overnight temperatures are expected early Friday morning across parts of the Bay Area and Central Coast.

The alerts are in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.

Affected areas include the East Bay and North Bay interior valleys and mountains, the Santa Clara Valley and eastern mountains, the Santa Cruz Mountains, the Salinas Valley and Central Coast mountains, as well as the San Francisco Bay shoreline.

Officials warn that the cold could create hazardous conditions for sensitive populations, including unhoused individuals. Prolonged exposure to low temperatures may lead to hypothermia for people, pets, and livestock. The cold may also damage or kill sensitive crops and plants.

Residents are urged to take precautions, check on vulnerable neighbors, bring pets indoors, and protect sensitive vegetation.
