A man who died in a shooting in Bethel Island on Monday night has been identified by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.
Edward Garofalo IV, a 38-year-old man from Martinez, died in the shooting reported at 8:49 p.m. Monday in the 3200 block of Dutch Slough Road. Deputies arrived to find Garofalo lying on the street and he was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.
Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting and the Sheriff’s Office had not announced an arrest or released any suspect details as of Wednesday.

From Martinez but in Bethel Island at 8:49pm and ends up dead in the middle of the street…gee wonder what this situation was all about!?!
He was actually shot in front of a home on Dutch Slough Rd. which is across the slough from Bethel Island in unincorporated Oakley, not on Bethel Island.
Detectives from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old Clayton Dortzbach in Concord on Wednesday on suspicion of murder.
He’s in the Martinez Detention Facility Bail set at $1 million.
I see in the follow up article days later they have more information released. This information should have been provided upon reporting of the incident. Nothing stated affects the investigation and it let’s the citizens know pertinent details for THEIR safety. So a Pittsburg man kills a Martinez man in Bethel Island at 8:49PM in the evening…like I said gee wonder what they were doing!?!
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department arrested the suspected shooter in the City of Concord yesterday afternoon. He was identified as Clayton Carl Dortzbach, age 40, of the City of Pittsburg. He’s currently being held in jail on $1 million bail.
