Time To Spring Forward: Daylight Saving Time Begins This Weekend

Twice a year, millions of Americans reset their clocks, and that moment arrives again this weekend as Daylight Saving Time begins early Sunday morning.

At 2 a.m. on Sunday, clocks across most of the United States will “spring forward” one hour, meaning people will lose an hour of sleep but gain more daylight in the evening. The time change marks the start of the Daylight Saving Time period, which lasts until early November.

Daylight Saving Time was originally adopted to make better use of daylight during the longer days of spring and summer. By shifting an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening, the change is intended to reduce energy use and give people more daylight after work and school.

Most smartphones, computers, and digital clocks will adjust automatically, but manual clocks, ovens, microwaves, and some car dashboards may need to be changed by hand.

The shift can temporarily disrupt sleep schedules, and health experts recommend going to bed a little earlier in the days leading up to the change to help adjust. Some studies have also shown a short-term increase in fatigue and minor accidents in the days immediately after the clock change.

Not all parts of the country observe Daylight Saving Time. Hawaii and most of Arizona remain on standard time year-round.

Daylight Saving Time will continue until Nov. 1, 2026, when clocks will fall back one hour, returning the country to standard time.

Great time to change out batteries in smoke alarms. Please make sure smoke alarms are working

Unless you have 10 year batteries in them. 10 year might even be mandated now in California or local code.

… .rhetorical question ….. when will the CA politicos have the chutzpah to finally do what voters wanted and voted on … to stop the changing times – standard or day light – take your pick but just one!

Move to British Columbia. They’re going on year round DST starting tomorrow. Not popular though (look it up).

I’d choose Hawaii or Ariz first as they don’t change their times

Locations in the tropics like Hawaii don’t observe DST because the Sun doesn’t move that far north or south. Mexico dropped DST a couple years ago for the same reason.

Think of it this way:
California politicians will always do the opposite of what the majority wants.
If the majority wants VHS, politicians will demand Beta. It just how they are wired, so to speak.

Get rid of time zones and just use UTC. Your computer and phone do, it’s just translated to local time. We all communicate with people all over the world these days and with UTC no math needed to know the convenient time to chat. The only reason DST is still around is due to the Chamber of Commerce.

I’m on Peanut Butter Jelly Time year-round.
