A suspicious package left on a public bench prompted a response from the Walnut Creek Police Department on St. Patrick’s Day after a concerned resident reported unusual activity.
According to police, a caller reported seeing an individual place a package on a bench, take a photo, and then walk away. Officers quickly responded to the scene and, out of an abundance of caution, requested assistance from K9 Lucky, a police dog specially trained in explosives detection.
After conducting a thorough inspection, K9 Lucky determined the package posed no threat. The item was later identified as a box of pizza.
Police officials said the incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and encouraged residents to continue reporting anything that appears suspicious. Authorities reminded the public that if something doesn’t seem right, it’s always best to call 911 and let trained professionals investigate.

Does it, really?
YES.
Well, I hope they let Lucky eat some pizza!
Did good boy get the nummies for his good detective work?
That’s about $20 worth of pizza!
And some idiot reported this as a bomb? They were probably wearing a covid face mask still..
I hope you are not saying a pizza box cannot conceal a bomb?
It is indeed a pretty strange behavior to place a box containing a half eaten pizza on a bench and take a picture of the box.
LoOk At ThAt TrAsH can, DuMpStEr, ReCyClInG bin, GaRbAgE tRuCk, FuLl Of BoMbS!!! cALl iT in!!!
Keeping citizens safe from, left over pizza . . . . . . .
Takin’ a bite outa crime
Lucky:”well boss, when do we eat?”
While, in hind sight, it is worth a little chuckle… reactions to this story show exactly why
law enforcement’s pleas of: “See something~!Say something seems to be a huge failure.
Been there, done that. Felt stupid and more than a bit endangered…when the cop responding
to my: “he’s selling drugs from the trunk of his car parked right across from my house” and…
the cop arrived, got out, fist bumpedhis good buddy. left with a baggy..for his trouble. Dope
car moved… and I felt in danger of retaliation for months!
That pizza might be poison waiting for a stray, homeless person…..?
I would not let a dog eat pizza, it would probably give him a tummy ache & diarrhea.
I am also highly suspect of any food found laying on a bench in public.
There’s probably a couple of Bevis & Butthead types who laced it with cat crap pepperoni just waiting to watch someone eat it.
a pizza box is considered a “suspicious package”, lol! WCPD at their finest…
Is this intended to be a light hearted bit to get a smile from people. If that box in the picture is the box that was considered suspect, either there are some very “off” people out there, or someone figured a way to add some levity to our day.
