A suspect is in custody following a homicide investigation that began late this morning in a Lafayette neighborhood. At approximately 11:36 a.m., Lafayette police officers responded to a report of a suspicious individual at a residence on Westminster Place. Upon arrival, officers entered the home and discovered a man deceased inside. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity. A nearby pedestrian was detained in connection with the incident and later arrested. The suspect was identified as 35-year-old David Prince of Chico. About six days ago, a person named David Prince from Chico posted a threat on Facebook, asking someone to kill a 34-year-old Lafayette resident, who he named publicly, and posted the victim’s address, on Westminster Place.

Detectives with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office homicide unit, along with crime lab personnel, responded to assist with the investigation. The case remains under active investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at (925) 313-2600 or dispatch at (925) 646-2441.
