MTC Approves Sweeping 2050+ Plan To Tackle Housing, Transit And Climate Challenges

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission adopted Plan Bay Area 2050+ Wednesday and certified its environmental impact report, giving final approval to the region’s long-range blueprint for transportation, housing, economic resiliency and environmental sustainability.

The plan was approved unanimously last week by the Association of Bay Area Governments’ Executive Board, concluding a nearly three-year planning process that included input from more than 17,600 residents, community organizations, advocacy groups and public agencies.

Plan Bay Area 2050+ outlines 35 strategies across transportation, housing, the economy and the environment and is intended to make the nine-county region more affordable, connected and resilient through 2050 and beyond.

The plan emphasizes expanding affordable housing, improving equity in the reach of public transit, and addressing climate risks such as wildfires and rising sea levels.

For the first time, the plan includes a regional resilience project list. It is an inventory of infrastructure projects needed to prepare the region for roughly 4.9 feet of sea level rise in coming decades.

Michael Germeraad, associate planner with ABAG, said many of the projects on the resiliency list are conceptual in nature.

“It’s meant to give the region a tool to understand the level of funding that’s needed to meet this challenge,” Germeraad said. “Our approach is allowing locals or asset managers to lead an adaptation planning … as opposed to us coming in at the regional level and suggesting a specific approach.”

ABAG is the council of governments and the regional planning agency for the Bay Area’s nine counties and 101 cities and towns, and the MTC is the transportation planning and financing agency for the same area. The two agencies are required by the state to develop the regional plan jointly.

Here we go with the fear mongering again…”4.9 feet in the coming decades” what they don’t say is “how many decades” is the coming decades…70? 80? 90? or 10. and that funding level is short for your tax money.

This is another never-ending grifting opportunity and a huge waste of money.

Who put these individuals on this board? were they elected or appointed? Why on earth would our future be up to a board of unelected people!?! A 3 year study conducted with only 17,600 residents out of the reported 6.6 – 6.7 million residents that currently reside in the bay area…

How many of these people read sci-fi novels with visions of a tech efficient cities with flying cars, etc? Note that some of these stories were taking place after the country had been obliterated by an apocalyptic war. Reality checks need to accompany idealism.

4.9 rise in sea level🤣🤣

If sea levels are rising so quickly, why do Bay Area marinas need to spend millions dredging every few years.

According to NOAA, the relative sea level trend is 0.94 mm/year with a 95% confidence interval of +/- 0.35 mm/year based on monthly mean sea level data from 1939 to 2025, which is equivalent to a change of 0.31 feet in 100 years.

Big whoop!

Disband the unelected and unaccountable MTC and ABAG!!!

…what a load of cxxx …. who believes this stuff?! who on the board / committee has relatives in construction that will benefit from this fear mongering?

Why is a regional transportation agency involved in housing at all unless it is planning on expanding coverage to certain regions?

The stacks of laundered money will always be exponentially higher than the sea level rise, should there be one.

Climate always has and always will change. It has to do with earth’s axis, rotation, and it’s
relationship to the sun.

Just yet another load of horse bleep!

MTC/ABAG are stacked with the most radical leftist, socialist, marxist “Climate Nazi’s” on planet earth and should never be taken serious…….in fact, they are dangerous to us Californian’s.

MTC/ABAG should be 100% abolished.

B/r, Ronald L. Kirkish

In fact, MTC/ABAG should be relegated to the garbage heap of history!!

Over 4 decades, 40 years, of making fake climate change claims that have never proven true; never!!

And yet MTC/ABAG still persist in lying to all of us Californian’s.

If you take a little of your time and investigate who are the leaders of MTC & ABAG, [Plan Bayarea 2050] you will find that the very large maoritiy of their leaders (and members) are all either elected leaders, or their appointee’s, of the most liberal left cities in California, San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose, etc., etc., etc..
