Sort of like some of our local elected office holders who’ve switched their political party affiliation over the last few decades or so, just as Congressman Mark DeSaulnier who was a Republican and became a Democrat, just as State Senator Tim Grayson (the lying, cheating, crooked, corrupt, preacher) who was a Republican and became a Democrat, just as Contra Costa County Supervisor Ken Carlson who was a Republican and became a Democrat, and just as Congressman Eric Swalwell who was a Republican and became a Democrat. I have to wonder if more conservative areas of the country experience the same sort of party switching, but with Democrats becoming Republicans because they desire to have a political career.

President Trump has endorsed Steve Hilton for California governor. Steve Hilton is an immigrant who came to California in 2012. He became a U.S. citizen in 2021. Somehow it seems surprising that Trump would endorse a candidate who became a citizen only recently.
That is surprising only to people who pretend there is no difference between legal immigrants and illegal aliens.

The only other top tier Republican candidate running for Governor of California this year is Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner Chad Bianco and he can’t win a statewide general election in California, while Steve Hilton only has an uphill battle to win a statewide general election.
The last Republican governor of California was Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was an immigrant from Austria. Now Trump has endorsed another immigrant to be our governor? Aren’t there any qualified Republican candidates who were born in our country, not to mention our state?

What’s your definition of “qualified?” I’m not a spokesperson for the California Republican Party, but the party does have plenty of “qualified” members, depending on your definition of “qualified,” who could run for governor. My guess is that they don’t want to damage their political careers with a more than likely election loss, since California voters tend to vote in the neighborhood of 60% for the Democratic Party candidate and in the neighborhood of 40% for the Republican Party Candidate.

So, why did California voters choose to vote-in 6 Governors of California since the end of World War II, Republican Governor Goodwin Knight (1953 – 1959) who was born in Utah, Republican Governor Ronald Reagan (1967 – 1975) who was born in Illinois, Republican Governor George Deukmejian (1983 – 1991) who was born in New York, Republican Governor Pete Wilson (1991 – 1999) who was born in Illinois, Democrat Governor Gray Davis (1999 – 2004) who was born in New York, and Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (2004 – 2011) who was born in Styria, Austria, who weren’t native-born Californians? What we clearly see is that since the end of World War II, Democrat Governors of California tend to be native-born Californians (4 out of 5 Governors) and Republican Governors of California tend to be non-native-born Californians (5 out of 6 Governors). President Trump appears to be following an 80+ year trend with his endorsement of Republican Steve Hilton by endorsing a non-native-born Californian.

They want to delay as long as possible and inflict enough pain at the pump, so that the weak willed American public will lose focus on the longer term and solely focus on today’s costs. They’re using the old playbook of “Causing economic pain = a loud (not demoralized) backlash by the public. This will cause the politicians to ease up. And if that doesn”t work, then we will just lie and cheat on the deals that we make”. This has worked in the past, especially if you throw in the possibility of American blood spilling. The first successful use of this strategy was Viet Nam. Saddam tried it in both Iraqi wars but was unsuccessful. But this strategy does not work with a determined president. Iran has not admitted to itself that this strategy is failing and does not have the will or ability to change tactics.
Because of their failure to change up what isn’t working, the militant leadership has become unwitting jihadists. The hardcore clerics like this because they are hoping for their version of the second coming. The hardcore military leaders are either desperate to save their skins (knowing that a noose awaits failure) or they just want everyone to lose if they can’t win. This is evidenced by the bombing of every country in range of their missiles and drones.
Using a UFC analogy, Iran is getting choked out but would rather lose consciousness and save face vs. tapping out.
Finally, you keep asking about “being safer” and “good wars”. Iran has hundreds of pounds of 60% enriched uranium. They admitted to this. There is no reason to possess uranium over 20% unless you plan on using it for a weapon. None. The main sticking point in negotiations has been Iran’s reluctance to forego future uranium enrichment. They have been offered free uranium to power their nuke plants but they turned that down. They have been consistent with their desire to rid the world of Israel and the Great Satan. Getting (and detonating) a nuke has always been Iran’s goal. Keeping the bomb away from them makes us all safer. And that makes it a good war.

The idea that they wanted to nuke Israel is laughingly Israeli propaganda. Israel has repeatedly killed or targeted Iranians seeking to negotiate peace with the US. So what does that say about their motivation?
Do you actually think the US is winning? We’ve spent hundreds of billions funding this war. Our prices have increased, setting off inflation. This was about SB 1414 which changed the punishment for solicitation of a minor from 2 days to 1 year in county jail and up to a $10,000.00 fine to 2, 3, or 4 years in state prison, up to a 25,000.00 fine, and registering as a sex offender.
I don’t believe that the Dem politicians believe their bs about Iran. “We’re losing badly”, “It’s a quagmire”, “It’s an illegal war”, etc.
