Drivers across California are still paying the highest gas prices in the nation, with the statewide average climbing to $5.89 per gallon – well above the current U.S. average of $4.12.
In Contra Costa County, prices are even steeper. The average cost for a gallon of regular gas has reached $5.97, adding more strain for commuters and families already grappling with high living costs.
The latest figures highlight a familiar trend: California consistently leads the nation in fuel prices, often by a wide margin. Factors such as higher state taxes and fees, stricter environmental regulations, and supply constraints continue to contribute to the gap between California and the rest of the country.
In Oklahoma, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.45.
The average price for gas in California has been above $4.000 per gallon every month since May of 2021 with an average high of $4.598 per gallon in November of 2021.
.
It was above $5.000 per gallon from March of 2022 through November of 2022 with an average high of $5.905 per gallon in October of 2022, August 2023 through October of 2023 with an average high of $5.546 per gallon in October of 2023, April of 2024 through May of 2024 with an average high of $5.255 per gallon in April of 2024, and March through the present of 2026 with an average high of $5.882 per gallon in April of 2026.
.
It was above $6.000 per gallon in June of 2022 with an average high of $6.294 per gallon.
Trump did this!
Yes. Wait until all other prices go up as well. I don’t mind that gas price go up but please leave the Starbucks price the same!
Yeah that figures and is exactly what I expected as a response.
Paul,
.
Once again you can’t help but show us all who you really are, posting a comment with the purpose of inciting anger to elicit an anger filled response.
So the extra dollar a gallon that gavy imposes has nothing to do with it…completely hopeless
Because of Iran, gas in my corner of Middle Tennessee is up to $3.639. I guess California is harder on the gas industry than the Straights of Hormuz.
When it comes crude oil in California, we’re an island.
There are NO crude oil pipelines coming into our state.
80% of crude oil refined in CA is from other countries.
.
Refineries closing are a DIRECT result of laws passed
by state legislature and signed into law by the governor.
Voters have burdened California by electing incompetent
baboons.
.
Other major problems were created by unaccountable and
unelected paper clip warrior minions HE/L bent on ‘out greening’
rest of the world and at every opportunity imposing huge
fines. Refiners are not the only ones closing down CA
operations, U.S. Steel decided to close it’s Pittsburg plant
due mostly from fines imposed by contra costa county
and the state.
.
“Confronting the potential of gasoline shortages and severe price hikes,
seven draft Executive Orders to address California’s war on the oil and
gas industry are making their way through Washington, D.C. to President
Donald J. Trump. The Executive Orders are intended to ensure that the
United States has the necessary fuels from California to provide for its
national security.
“California’s Governor and Legislature, through its past and most recent
actions, and despite numerous warnings, have proven that they are
incapable or unwilling to address its self-created fuel crisis, as well as
the broader security of the nation,” wrote USC Professor Michael Mische…”

.
Fuel prices would be would be higher had not President Trump’s
seven seven Executive Orders. (See CA Globe article above)
Had it not been for Trump, state wide fuel prices would be
well on their way to $7 or higher.
….. some analysts on both sides of the aisle are saying possible $9 gas by summer if this continues
Would be very helpful in UNelecting democrats in CA state legislature
and governors office.
In Claycord country I see Regular above $6 in many places
Great fun to go for a drive the other day as well as expensive to burn off crap in my catalytic convertor to pass the smog test. I don’t drive far often because most I need is within a 2 mile radius. But I have a 1998 SUV and the smog guys hate to see it come in for check. I also read an article that said there was a movement to exempt older cars from the smog test. I did note that most cars on 680 were very late model.
