I don’t drive much anyway. As I’ve said about every place I drive to is in a 4 mile radius of my house. Let’s tell our “public servants” (remember the public part) what to do than mandating to us. Most people probably couldn’t make a good decision on this issue anyway until the bills start piling in and then it will be too late.
Captain Bebops,
.
Too many public servants forget who they are and act as public overlords!!!
Change habits ?, am too old to put out that much effort.
.
Commuted to work Clayton To Pittsburg. Worked at
Chevron in mid 1970s didn’t like commute even
back then. These days drive maybe 80 miles a month.
.
Tell the Wife, take Uber
I think this proposal is to replace the current gas tax. I still drive a lot, but not as much as I used to. It wouldn’t change my habits at all if for no other reason, I’m still working f/t. And we like to get out there and enjoy life!
Replace current gas tax? Dreamer!
No. I barely drive anymore.
It adds to the frustration of this state.
My cola can’t even cover the gas and medical increases.
let’s add the savings account tax while we are at it
It wouldn’t make a difference, I travel where I need to travel to. The only way for this to work is for the State of California to track all travelers and drivers in the state because the state can’t tax miles traveled out of state. Why would anyone want the government to track your every move to generate tax dollars?
What the State of California needs to do is add a tax surcharge to registration fees for electric vehicles so that electric car owners pay their share of taxes for services provided by the state gas excise tax. The same also goes for vehicles run on hydrogen and natural gas, if they don’t currently pay equal fuel excise taxes.
…agree – that’s what I’ve been saying for a long time … adding to the vehicle registration is the least intrusive – identifies the hybrids and electrics , and who wants “big brother” checking our vehicle mileage monthly / annually? Do away with gas taxes at the pump and no mileage tax!
Most excellent idea.
.
Reason why hydrogen and natural gas never took off,
communist china and politicians couldn’t make make off them.
Original G,
.
Governor Schwarzenegger was right with his “Hydrogen Highway” plans.
I’m leaving commiefornia as soon as my dear mother is not drawing breath. This tax for income grift commiefornia runs and then keeps reaching deeper into my pocket can kiss my backside. These crooked vile politicians have ruined what was a great state and their cult just keeps mouth breathing away!
It would make me drive towards an Eastern border and keep on going.
My driving habits will remain the same, but isn’t it peculiar how the
party of “no kings” like to throw mandates at us? All through the
COVID pandemic there were mandates, now they are mandating
that no new gas powered cars and light trucks will be sold after 2035.
What they should do is increase the registration tax on electric vehicles
rather than penalize everybody that drives. They should also add an
additional sales tax on bicycles that will go towards road repair.
Bicycles not only use the same roads as motor vehicles, they also
have their own special painted lanes, so to keep it fair, they should
help pay for it.
Great Grandma absolutely refuses to move, dang it . . . .
.
One simple fix for what wrong with California,
give democrats a STRONG, SWIFT KICK IN THE TEETH
at the ballot box and vote them ALL OUT OF OFFICE.
.
They run CA like they’re kings and regard us nothing more
than lab rats they are free to experiment on using
OUR TAX DOLLARS.
This is essentially what the gas tax is. The more you drive, the more gas you use and the more you pay for road maintenance. The heavier the car or SUV or truck you drive, the more gas you use, which makes up for the greater damage you are doing to the roads. A tax on EVs and other alternative fueled vehicles based on miles driven and their weight is LONG overdue.
Until imbeciles are forbidden to vote Democrat Socialists will continue to be elected.
There needs to be a civics test to qualify people to vote much like a written driving test to qualify people to drive.
A voter ID would need to be issued & required to cast a vote.
Or shall we continue to let idiots determine our destiny?
Great idea, however in this state run by Democrat Socialists, they would decide the test content and you would need to give the correct woke answers to the comrads who wrote the test.
I would learn how to adjust my mileage … yep fraud. Why not, our governor does it so why can’t I!
Probably not change much. I drive too work and to do errands around town. I try to do my errands in one day, depending what I need. I usually go to Grocery Outlet once a week, Safeway or Raley’s about the same, CVS and Trader Joe’s a every 2 or 3 weeks. The other driving I do is to meet friends for lunch, one lives in Petaluma and the other in Windsor. My Windsor friend and I usually meet in Sonoma, or Petaluma. I usually pick up my friend in Petaluma and we go to lunch there. Of course then I visit my daughter and grandchildren in Pasadena a few times a year. I also go to a luncheon in Petaluma (The Danish Soldier’s Club) 3 or 4 times during the summer. Once in awhile I might take a 2-3 day trip out of the Bay Area, Clear Lake, Tahoe, Gold Country. The driving I do is to keep me in food, wine, make-up etc. keeping my social life active, seeing my family, and spending time in some of my favorite places in California, I don’t see that changing.
Serves no purpose. I prioritize and always expect the unexpected.
I won’t be surprised if the California democrat government proposes taxing people for walking.
Super ticks me off that kohls has free electric chargers for shopers with electric cars, I have sat in the parking lot and have seen a guy charge his car leave and go get his other electric car, never going inside the store, that’s some BS. But kohls is a woke department store.
It would probably be the last straw that made me move, because it is so short sighted. I drive as little as I can now so I’m not paying for gas and put mileage on my car.
