A man accused of fatally shooting a woman in Antioch in February has pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

Zahvon Hopson, 22, was arraigned Tuesday on a three-counts relating to the shooting death of Dimon Lasly Commodore on Feb. 19.

According to prosecutors, officers arrived in the 2200 block of Sycamore Drive and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. She was declared dead at the scene. The suspect fled the scene.

Hopson was identified as the suspect and was eventually located in San Diego on April 10, when he was arrested.

The allegations against Hopson include murder, possession of a firearm by a felon with a prior conviction, and unlawful firearm activity. The murder charge carries an enhancement for personally and intentionally discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and death, prosecutors allege.

Hobson is being held in jail on $2.1 million bail and has waived his right to a speedy trial, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Of course…..they’re never guilty. They could be seen by witnesses and even caught on camera and they always say they’re not guilty. But when asked why did they run and hid, they never have an explanation. ( or they use the one that they were afraid of police )

The purpose of an arraignment is to inform the defendant of the charges.
It’s standard procedure for the defendant to plead not guilty, and most
judges will not accept a guilty plea during the arraignment. It allows the
defense time to review all the evidence and that the state must prove he
or she is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The court will want to ensure
the defendant’s constitutional rights are being preserved, and is being
represented by legal counsel and is not being coerced or acting in haste.
