There would be a lot fewer collisions on Clayton Road if the speed limit were lower and camera enforced. You have a much better chance of being injured or killed by a bad driver in Concord than you do of being injured or killed by a criminal.
I believe they recently lowered the speed limit down to 35 mph down from 40 which is has been for Forever. 35 is a little low for that size of a throughfare.
People probably haven’t even noticed the change and how many people abide by the posted speed limit anyway.
I was driving down that way just the other day going around 40 and people were flying by me like it was the freeway. Why is everyone in a hurry. If you need to speed to get someplace then you should have left a little earlier, people!!
Also, in case people haven’t noticed. Speed limit on David has been changed from 40 to 35 same as with Oak Grove Rd., down to 35 now. Why don’t the traffic people make drivers aware of the changes being they’ve been driving 40 on those roads (probably) since they opened them. Communicate!!!
My grandson told me that he saw a motorcycle pass a speed monitor, and the machine said the motorcycle was going 93 mph! On Clayton Road! After the motorcycle, a car went by going over 50 mph. It is a wonder there aren’t more accidents and injuries on Clayton Road.
I can’t figure out how it’s possible to get in an accident on Clayton Rd…it seems ridiculous !
I can understand accidents happening on freeways but Clayton Rd ?
ridiculous
Absolutely correct, Winston!! Speed limit of 5 mph maximum to eliminate *all* chances of injury accidents. Who’s with us?!
I like the name! wonder how many get the sarcasm!
You want people to drive 5 mph everywhere they go? It would take people forever just to get anywhere.
Your name is really Karen, isn’t it.
Shall the whole world go 5 mph. Your probably one of those people that puts down the road not even doing the speed limit, that’s a road Hazard too. Talk about Angry Birds on the road!!
They are called “Road Monitors” and you will find them in the “Fast Lane’ on most roads doing the limit or slightly under it and refusing to move (while they are getting constantly passed on the right)
There would be a lot less collisions if people didn’t drive like jerks and valued other people on the road. The speed limit could be 100 if people looked around and thought before they acted.
The speed limit seems reasonable to me. The problem is bad and/or distracted drivers.
Not a speed limit issue – it’s distracted drivers and the “me first” self entitlement attitudes
These people need to slow down! Period. Stop putting others in danger! And get off your phone! Be courteous, be respectful and be responsible drivers. We all share the road!
Clayton Road has it’s share of young persons using paper plates, driving
like it’s their own slalom course, weaving thru traffic with abrupt lane changes
at HIGH SPEED cutting people off, running red lights and using turning
lanes as clear shots to blow past stopped traffic. Blocked one in at stop
light once, clown used sidewalk to get around stopped traffic and catch
up with his buddies.
Why paint all young drivers as Demons of the road.? been on Highway 4 and its mostly adult males. In this case a woman driver failed to yield to the car that ended up on the sidewalk. You yourself admitted that you used your car to block another one in. That’s called ROAD RAGE. Practice what you preach.
Wrote from my personally witnessing, on several occasions,
behavior described in my post.
.
An how does,
“Clayton Road has it’s share of young persons …”,
equate out to, “… all young drivers …” ?
.
“Blocked one in at stop light once …” Could have described that better.
.
Was stopped legally in a traffic lane at a red light.
Nut job was stopped behind me.
He drove up onto sidewalk to get past stopped traffic.
.
Luckily, seldom had to put up with Highway 4 goings on, my work commute was
17 minutes, Clayton to Pittsburg and back. Did work refinery field construction
back in 1975 at Chevron. Hated commuting even then and turned down a job offer
from Chevron because of it.
Always checking texts is a recipe for disaster
I love how everyone here knows exactly how this accident occurred and what laws we should pass to stop it.
Years ago, I would drive between Detroit and Illinois, passing through Fort Wayne,Indiana, along the way. I was surprised to learn that, by driving at the posted speed limit through the city, I wouldn’t encounter any red lights, unless the traffic was really heavy. I still don’t understand why I’ve never seen this type of speed control anywhere else.
Believe it or not – it used to be that way in some areas in CA – now, even tough there may be a main thoroughfare – any side connecting street triggers the thoroughfare to stop (ex. YVR)
You can only do that kind of thing in one direction on a street for reasons of geometry so it’s really only done in places with networks of 1 was streets or done in the peak direction on 2 way streets. Unfortunately if you do it on a 2 way street you end up with really unpleasant signal timing on the non peak direction.
