Due to blustery conditions on Sunday, PG&E has shut off power to a portion of Contra Costa County in order to prevent wildfires, Supervisor Diane Burgis announced. According to PG&E’s outage map, the planned outage covers portions of the southeastern area of the county. After severe weather has passed, PG&E will inspect equipment before safely restoring power, Burgis said. Unplanned outages of over 500 households are also shown by Pleasant Hill, Danville, and Orinda.
PG&E Shuts Off Power Throughout Contra Costa County To Prevent Wildfire

Growing up NEVER heard of power having to be turned off because of wind.
Did pg&e change distance between poles, creating galloping ?
.
What changed from way power distribution project specs were laid out from
1950s to 1970s ? ? ? Greenbook changes ? ? ?
.
Any retired lineman wiling to shed some light on how power distribution
changed over the years, creating such a fragile system ?
PGE shareholders don’t give a flying F is the inside story here.
That’s a great question and we as the tax paying provider have the right to know. Their product is substandard and has steadily decreased as you outlined. They have rolled down any and all fines while neglecting their outdated infrastructure creating what we now see. PG&E needs to be audited with the results publicized!!!
Good comments.
On another note, here is a lineman with some comments…..

Get yourself a solar generator. Whether you agree or disagree with planned outages you will at least have backup power.
What PG&E is doing right now and it is optional at least from my solar menu is using grid instead of solar so the battery doesn’t get depleted. So my battery was 100% even this morning. However I wonder how much we will be billed for that power from the grid. My battery these sunny days reaches 100% usually by noon.
Lets start having “Wild Fire Prevention Day” similar to “Snow Days”, where we all stay home and turn the power off. I’ll start the petition. *sarcasm*
They didn’t invest in maintaining and upgrading their aging infrastructure. They are now, after destroying massive amounts of property and killing many people, though.
PG&E prioritizes executive compensation and shareholder profits over
safety. Deferred equipment maintenance has already led to catastrophic
and deadly wildfires that resulted in lawsuits where they passed the cost
of the settlements onto their customers. The biggest problem with PG&E
is they are a monopoly and have no competition, therefor there is no
incentive to increase efficiency, improve customer service, and lower prices.
With the fleecing of us for BILLIONS for years and too many rate hikes to count – they’ve had ample funding and time to fix this! But it won’t happen until we get a governor with guts to ream out the decay at the PUC and PG&E and stop the hand-holding triad!
They cut power so that they can’t be sued if a fire breaks out due to heavy winds.
