The city of Antioch launched a new Illegal Dumping Task Force earlier this month to improve coordination among city departments and strengthen efforts to address ongoing dumping problems in neighborhoods and public spaces.
The cross-departmental initiative, announced by City Manager Bessie Marie Scott, includes staff from Public Works, Code Enforcement, the Antioch Police Department, the Environmental Resources Division, and the Public Information Office.
City officials said the task force is intended to speed up cleanup efforts, improve enforcement against repeat violators, and better track illegal dumping hotspots across the city.
“This effort is about coordination, accountability, and results,” said City Manager Bessie Marie Scott. “Illegal dumping affects the quality of life in our neighborhoods and places a strain on City resources.”
The city plans to provide updates to the City Council and residents on the task force’s progress and any future policy recommendations.
As I posted before I’ll believe an improvement when I see it – it makes good PR for the politicos though
Would not be surprised if half of what is dumped was taken to transfer station,
drivers getting sticker shock turned around and left.

If city staff negotiated pickups on request, like we have here in Clayton their
problem might reduce greatly.

Bigger Government…a new task force. That’s the ticket!
Let’s study the problem…apparently it’s a brand-new-problem…we’ve never had to study it before.
Let’s hold meetings and draw per-diam. 👍
Knowing the cost of dumping legally is the primary issue…not much study is needed to know lowering the cost has merit. PLUS a financial and license penalty for lawbreaking needs to be
strictly enforced. Make paying to dump the cheaper choice!

Current contracts with Republic Services and MDRR expire in 2027,… but it appears they have already been approved to renew in March for ANOTHER 20 year contract. 20 YEARS?
Is that even possible?
Show me anybody with a set 20 year contract…who can still raise rates on customers annually…
and I’ll show you a despot-company—backed by a crooked government agency.

One gets the impression there are no tough negotiators on payroll.

I’m going to take back a lot of what I said in my last post. I spoke too soon. It occurred to me that
I had not been paying much attention to garbage except to mentally complain that the Garaventas actually told me to wash my recyclables before I put them in the bin…! Like maybe my water and power bill was less than theirs….!
So I did some research. Our local garbage collection, sorting, distribution, digging down to hide our garbage “under and inside” to shrink the old mountain of garbage …and energy production is NOT what it was when I last noticed it.

~~ still holds on to City-Concord’s umbilical cord of stupidity. And YES Concord gave them another 20 year contract —to “hand-sort” our garbage for Republic Services! Screw the peasants… they have no choice but to pay whatever we say!
What that back-scratching ultimately got us? ~~~ Electric rates 2-3 times higher than other local cities.
Right in our own back yard at Keller Landfill AMERESCO (Bill Gates, Blackrock, all the usual-suspects ) are brilliantly recapturing methane gas at Keller turning it into electricity that Alameda and Palo Alto ~ are buying at Tier 1 & 2 kWh rates at 1/3 -1/2 the price we are paying PG&E.
THANKS to sentimental pissant city politicians mired in ignorance and stubborn stuck-in-the-mud stupidity–who snubbed the top-ranking Republic Services offers, along with ‘RecycleSmart’ (We’re so Elite we gave ourselves a fancy name) the JPA, Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority). ~~~!city council, county supervisor~~~ TERM LIMITS…!
