Hi Claycord, I just wanted to remind people when hiking beware of Rattlesnakes. On Friday around 11am I went hiking with my dog in Briones Park and came across this 4 foot Rattlesnake on the trail. We were on the Alhambra Creek trail when we spotted him. Luckily my dog was on a leash and that I was scanning the ground ahead of us while we walked. I kept my distance from him and noticed he was swallowing some kind of rodent.
“They’re more afraid of you than you are of them”
“You are in their home”
“Just leave it alone and it will leave you alone”
“Just walk around it”
“Corn Snake!”
and the stupidest comment of all……
“They were here first!”
There, now that the old standbys are out of the way maybe someone can make a fresh comment for a change.
I see many RS up in Briones, my main concern is trails users wearing earbuds in both ears. If you have to listen to music or whatever, please wear only 1 earbud. RS in most cases make noise before you actually see them (especially in low light areas of the trail, good to have an ear open, RS are highly camo’d.
Its big, but it isn’t four feet …must have been a ‘hyperbolist’ or drama queen reporting.
4’… that’s edible.
