Taxes.

Food. With the rising cost of groceries and the amount of food that some people throw out, it’s a shame.

Impulse buying

12

food deliveries and buring gas in drive throughs….

15

Starbucks, Peet’s, Dutch Bros, etc. … it’s just not that good….. and way too expensive

Number one is credit card interest. Using plastic for everyday expenses,
impulsively buying gadgets, and purchasing non-essential items online
that usually come with a delivery charge.
Another waste is buying coffee at an overpriced coffeehouse, and for
workers, buying their lunch on a daily basis. Then we have things like
food delivery, pre-packaged foods, tattoos, the latest iPhone, extended
warranties, designer clothes, and accessories. Beauty products that
promise to make you look ten years younger, and diet supplements
that promise more energy. Bottled water when you can get all the
water you want from a faucet.
Another huge waste of money is buying a new car. In one year that
new car can depreciate as much as 20%, and with a new EV like a
Tesla, it can lose 30% of its value. A person is better off buying a
used car that’s one or two years old, most of the options will be included,
and if there were any problems that needed fixing under the warranty,
they were already taken care of.
Anything trendy is a waste, especially clothes that will go out of style
in a year or so. An extravagant wedding is something that engaged
couples should reconsider. Use that money towards buying a house,
or towards their children’s college fund, or a nice honeymoon.
Expensive vacations, especially cruises and overseas in places like
Europe or Asia. If you cannot pay for it in cash, then don’t go.
And my last but not least thought, a car wash. Wash the car yourself.
You will get plenty of sunshine, vitamin D, and much needed exercise.

I agree with most of your points. I use to wash my own car, but now since I’m working or was until a week ago, and with a bad back I take it to a car wash, there’s one on Clayton Road I like. I do clean the inside though, bought a little car vacuum cleaner. Some designer clothes do not go out of style, I have certain basics that I wear year after year, velvet pants for dress up, denim jacket, camel blazer, London Fog rain coats, I do recommend buying on sale though. Black patent leather shoes. Ralph Lauren’s clothes are very traditional but expensive, Tommy Hilfiger is nice and cheaper alternative. Working retail I have learned a lot about people shopping habits.

I do buy Starbucks, but not every day, usually when I’m travelling or at work. Lease cars is another one. My last 3 cars were used Toyota Camry’s, one was I think a 2010, I drove it until it had 200000 miles on it, very few repairs. Now I have another Toyota Camry, a bit newer, but more than 2-3 years old, have had it for 1 and 1/2 year, no repairs just upkeep, and it looks almost new, no dents or big scratches etc.

Organic food, new cars, diamonds, rich Corinthian leather, freestanding bathtubs, and therapy.

Funny I grew up on organic food but my father was a Gardner so we didn’t have to buy. Farmer’s Market is a nice alternative. Therapy with the right therapist for certain problems can help move your life in a more positive direction.

No…. those are my necessities!
(and shiner Bock Beer)

Expensive make-up such as Lancome, Clinic, Estee Lauder, you don’t have to buy much before you have spend $300-400. Oil of Olay, Loreal, have great skin creams, if you buy at CVS you can use your coupons. For make-up Revlon, Maybelline, same for mascara and lipstick. Physician’s formula has great blusher and other nice products.
Since I worked retail for so many years, there’s certain things people buy that baffle me, such as Ralp Lauren baby clothes, true they are well made and cute (most baby clothes are cute) but if you buy for an infant they will outgrow in a short time. I guess they can be handed it down but as we all know infant tend to spill things on clothes and it doesn’t always come off in the wash.

take-out coffee

Commuting costs – they should be deductible, but they aren’t.
Let’s say I go to the City for work. I’m not going for fun – I’m commuting to make money. The cost of the commute (gas, parking, BART, whatever) is money I have to spend to make money. Therefore it’s a business expense. Therefore it should be deductible.
Who’s with me on this?
