California State Assembly Passes The MELT ICE Act Of 2026

Assemblymember Anamarie Ávila Farías (D-Martinez) announced this week that the California State Assembly passed two of her bills related to immigration enforcement and protections near polling places and childcare centers.

According to Ávila Farías, AB 1627 – titled the Misconduct Ends Law-Enforcement Trust Act of 2026 (MELT ICE Act), would prohibit certain former employees of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with documented histories of misconduct during specified periods from serving as peace officers in California.

A second measure, AB 2230, would limit federal law enforcement presence near polling places and would prohibit ICE from entering nonpublic areas of childcare centers without a judicial warrant, subpoena, or court order.

In a statement, Ávila Farías said the legislation is intended to address concerns about fear and intimidation related to immigration enforcement activities.

Both bills have now advanced to the California State Senate, where they await committee referral and further consideration.

“MELT ICE” what an idiotic name. So screw the more than half the country that voted for deporting illegal immigrants and border enforcement. I know I didn’t vote for Anamarie Ávila Farías (D-Martinez) I certainly didn’t ask for this madness of enabling illegal immigration.

By going against the majority of American voters, the Dems are chipping
away at the very democracy they claim Trump will destroy. If you Dems
out there cannot see this, you are either naive, stupid, or in denial, and
any thumbs down I get will prove me right.

What are you yapping about, the fact that you still point fingers at the opposite party just shows your level of intelligence and understanding of things. What are republicans doing in Arkansas? Texas? Alabama, Georgia, Virginia? The reality is neither party serves the people, both parties send young Americans to die for Israel, both parties are paid by them as well, and both parties send trillions of our tax dollars in aid for them. And the fact that you have that much engagements on your comment is sad and a true display of the American intelligence and knowledge that is so laughed at by the rest of the world.

Only a rich orphan with cool cars and gadgets would say such a thing.

@BruceWayne
According to you, an upvote for Dawg’s post is a display of “American intelligence and knowledge that is so laughed at by the rest of the world.” Well, here’s an intelligent response: WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!!

And almost half of the country did not vote for ICE..or this president. But that is a moot point. Most of my republican friends do not feel this was the immigration control plan we had hoped for. I personally would not want ice invading Concord…at least not with the level of violence we saw earlier this year.

It’s funny, Neighbor, that your republican friends do not feel this was the immigration control plan you had hoped for; when it’s just the opposite with my republican friends, as it’s exactly what they hoped for. And the violence of which you speak is due to the illegal actions of interfering people. No interference, no violence.

35

That’s great and ALL my republican friends are elated with the actions to this point and want the feckless useless politicians to get the FOTW so our federal laws regarding illegal immigrants can be enforced. Don’t care about your opinion of what is excessive because you would just find something else to cry about.

Can you enlighten us about how your imaginary “republican friends” proposed to deal with 1.5 million illegals that the Biden admin let into the country? Let me guess – it was to let them stay, since they are already here. And give them housing and Medicaid, and SNAP, and other benefits, since they claim to be “asylum seekers”. Right?
By the way, ICE doesn’t “invade” anything – but illegal immigrants certainly do.

1.5 million seems super low, believe the number was closer to 11 million during the Biden years.

22

Much much closer to 11 million just look it up it’s there for all to see!

Tell the truth, Neighbor.
All of the violence that you are complaining about came from the unhinged left!

They won’t it destroys all that they believe in!

What do you recommend? A luxury cruise ship all expenses paid transport for them back to their country.
p.s. Have you ever seen the process for arresting other types of law breakers?

Politicians in CA are really good at solving problems no one knows exist.

They are also really good at ignoring the real problems that are plaguing the state: Dismal education, crumbling infrastructure, rampant crime, horrendous fraud and theft of tax dollars, crushing never ending taxes….

Aliens who entered this country illegally are criminals.
So this bill is intended to eliminate the criminal’s fear and intimidation related to immigration enforcement activities?
Why bother?
Attention Illegal aliens! ……want to stop worrying? Self Deport!

You can call it that for all I care it doesn’t change the fact.

Am I surprised that a person in the Bay Area pushed for this useless legislation the answer would be no.

Can we push for a bill that eliminates these useless politicians from ever holding office again? That way they could never cause harm to us again. I am so sick and tired of these useless politicians grandstanding in front of our law-enforcement and trying to prevent our law-enforcement from enforcing the laws while the useless politicians protect criminals. The more these useless politicians, grandstand and protect criminals, the more I believe that we have criminals voting … and really that’s who our politicians should be representing? I would think politicians would want to protect those of us who are following the law, but I guess that these politicians wanna just protect their families.

They should read the Supremacy Clause. This is another joke from Sacrament.

I’m no legal eagle, but I do believe these bills are unenforceable.
A state, even the People’s Republic of California, does not have the authority to regulate the Federal Government.
My guess is the bills are a waste of time.
Typical of California Politicians.

45

State is telling Federal Government what they can’t do,
Does Supremacy Clause apply ? ? ?

28

Useless legislation is frequently called a nugatory law (meaning it has no force or effect), and is passed for political rhetoric or grandstanding rather than actual enforcement. More toothless ideas from the hive of incompetence in Sacramento.

DEPORT ALL ILLEGALS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CA is now a serer, thanks dems, would never live in the bay again, was one a good place to live but now it sucks !!!!!

These bills are a symbolic gesture.
Just like Newsom threatening to tax 100% on California recipients of anti-weaponization payouts.
Unenforceable.

22

just a bunch of nonsense and noise….not enforcable and furthermore not constitutional….Supremacy Clause states federal preempts state law when the two conflict

25

How dumb are these Liberals? VOTE RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s see if Greasy Gavin approves or vetoes this nonsense. You know he wants to sign off on it but he also wants to run for President so he’s been Mr. Median lately. Exciting!

Mr. Tightrope is more like it.
In California he has a warm and cozy safety net.
On the national stage not so much.

I would be afraid to vote too, if I was an illegal alien. Why? Because it’s against the law for them to vote.
So what we have here is a Democrat politician who wants to protect and shield illegal aliens who vote.
The anything to get votes democrat politicians are showing their true colors, again.

It is quite disgusting to see where many people in this forum stand on issues such as immigration. Regardless of our cultural and ethnic backgrounds, we should be treating each other with respect. I was blessed to be born in the United States as a citizen and raised in a diverse community as well, where I was able to appreciate the value that people like immigrants brought to our country. Many people seem to forget that the United States is a country of immigrants itself, that supposedly champions itself as a global superpower that is trying to help the world. Immigrants are not stealing our resources or our jobs any more than we are using the United States’ resources as citizens. We are not a nation of freedom for as long as we have people as prejudiced as you.

No, Locke, this is NOT how many people in this forum stand on immigration. It is, however, how many people in this forum stand on ILLEGAL immigration. Huge difference, and it’s not disgusting or prejudiced.

Illegal aliens are not “immigrants” they are criminal trespassers who ignored our laws and entered our country to freeload on all our giveaway programs.
Before all you libs jump on me with your stories of what “hard workers” these people are just remember that a great deal of the money they make here is sent right back to their families in their native countries where that USD is worth a lot more at the rate of exchange.
They didn’t come here to become Americans, they came here to make money.

That’s why Chavez went after the illegals. The were taking jobs from Americans.
