A man was wounded in a shooting Monday morning in Antioch, leading to a SWAT response and the arrest of a suspect, according to police. Officers were dispatched at about 6:34 a.m. to the 1100 block of West 9th Street after receiving reports of gunfire outside a residence. When officers arrived, they found a 37-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police provided first aid until personnel from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District arrived. The victim was taken to a local trauma center and was reported to be in stable condition with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. During the investigation, officers identified a suspect and determined he was likely inside a nearby home. Authorities established a perimeter around the residence and called in the Antioch Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team. The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Carl Griggs of Antioch, later surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.

The Antioch Police Department’s Investigations Bureau is handling the case. No additional information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting was immediately available. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Antioch Police Department Dispatch Center at 925-778-2441.
