California drivers will see another increase in state fuel taxes beginning July 1, according to a notice issued this week by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.
The tax on gasoline will rise from 61.2 cents per gallon to 63.4 cents per gallon, an increase of approximately 2.2 cents. The diesel fuel tax will also increase by about 1.6 cents per gallon. According to AAA, the average price of regular gasoline in California dropped from about $6.10 per gallon last week to approximately $6.01 per gallon on Tuesday.
California consistently ranks among the states with the highest gasoline prices in the nation. State officials have previously said fuel taxes help fund transportation infrastructure projects and support programs aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
It appears that we’ve reached the goal of reducing greenhouse emissions. Other states have recognized it and even stopped requiring smog tests. The politicos just think the public is stupid enough to keep funding such programs (which might get used for other things than transportation). You probably won’t find any state with more EVs and Hybrids per capita than California. We’re being conned!
And on top of all this BS, the state is requiring heavy duty commercial vehicles to be smoke tested every 3 months, starting next year. Someone is getting rich and it aint us.
Maybe, they should take the opportunity to test the drivers for English proficiency.
They definitely have the money for that program.
The money will continue to keep our roads in tip top shape. LOL, they will never have eough.
Because that money does not go to the roads. Governor Newsom sends it off wherever he pleases. A lot of it went to pay for people illegally in the state and give them free benefits.

Why? 100% of fuel taxes do not go to highway related maintenance and projects – some gets siphoned off for politicos pet projects …. we need to stop this xxxx we need a suspension of state & fed taxes – not more added on!!
