The Walnut Creek City Council will meet Tuesday, June 2, with discussions ranging from city staffing shortages to a potential overhaul of how the city charges fees for services.
One of the most significant items is a review of a comprehensive user fee study. Councilmembers will receive the results of a citywide analysis examining the true cost of providing fee-based services and will provide direction on a future cost recovery framework. The discussion could eventually lead to changes in permit, planning, recreation and other city fees.
The council will also hold a public hearing on the city’s recruitment and retention efforts. The hearing will focus on job vacancies throughout the organization and whether changes to hiring practices or policies may be needed to address staffing challenges.
Also on the agenda is the annual renewal process for the Walnut Creek Tourism Business Improvement District, which is funded through assessments on local hotels and is designed to promote tourism within the city. Councilmembers are expected to approve an assessment report and schedule a public hearing later this month.
Earlier in the day, the council will meet in closed session to discuss one anticipated litigation matter involving what the agenda describes as a “significant exposure to litigation.”
The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Walnut Creek City Hall.
Time for another fleecing of the taxpayers. Their answer to everything is ‘Raise Fees and Taxes!’
… speaking of litigation exposure to WC …. they put in cement islands for “traffic calming” in residential areas – like – next to a park, where many people park their vehicles while visiting the park. The problem is that parking is still allowed adjacent to the islands and when a vehicle is parked, the clearance is less than a foot between the parked car and the island – and when the driver or passenger door is opened (as happens frequently getting kids and things out of the car) there is NO space – you have to stop completely – it’s a tragic accident waiting to happen…… feedback to WC city staff regarding the safety & risk falls on deaf ears
4-way stop signs worked just fine along with traffic enforcement.
THEY PUT IN WHITE POST TO SEPARATE BIKERS FROM CARS AND PEOPLE ARE SMASHING INTO THEM AND IT IS UNSIGHTLY AND THEY ARE LEFT TO ROT.

Hey, those are called “pylons of equity” and they’ll be installing a bunch more of them. It’s all part of the Transit village plan.
They do however make really cool slalom courses for the kids on electric bicycles.
