A Contra Costa County Civil Grand Jury report has found that the county’s jails are operating at less than half their capacity while costing taxpayers about $396 per inmate per day when healthcare and mental health services are included. The report found the county’s three detention facilities housed an average of 957 inmates in 2025, despite having space for significantly more. The most expensive facility was Marsh Creek Detention Facility near Clayton, which cost $627 per inmate per day while operating at just 20 percent of capacity.
Because of the high costs and low population, the Grand Jury recommended county officials consider closing Marsh Creek Detention Facility by July 2027. The report also called for an independent audit of jail costs and greater transparency in how detention expenses are reported. The Sheriff’s Office and Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors have been asked to respond to the findings and recommendations.
So stop putting the criminals back on the streets and then do an actual audit, I guarantee the results will come back much different. Start holding those accountable for their criminality!!!

Back in 2011 democrats became alarmed at cost of incarcerating convicted
FELONS in state prisons, plus embarrassment of having a high rate of
incarceration. (Result of a failing state educational system, high school
graduates unable to function in job market. So to survive, resort to crime)

Historically CA put criminals, failures of California’s educational system, and
mentally ill in state prisons. When AB-109 passed, first ones bussed back to
county’s they came from were HIGH cost inmates, ones needing medical care,
handicapped and inmates taking high costing drugs. all shoved back down onto
CA’s 58 counties.

Incarcerating felons is Expensive and democrats aren’t good at saving money.

Then democrats running CA became terrified county jails in all 58 counties were
so over crowded, those convicted of misdemeanor crimes were routinely being
released after serving mere fractions of their sentences. So they invented
Prop 47 as their answer to jail overcrowding. We are all aware of what a disaster
liberal democrats caused with their knee jerk Prop 47 fix.

are on OUR STREETS in increasing numbers instead of being incarcerated.

….sounds like another Newsom – idea – shut prisons down and release the perps – saves money -right? … make San Quentin a knitting and yoga center? the opposite needs to happen – gimme a break!
Put them to work: picking up trash, cleaning government buildings, cutting brush and weeding .. why should honest responsible taxpayers have to foot the bill for criminals who basically society’s parasites?

Why not release a detailed budget? How much and what are we taxpayers/producers footing the bill for anything other than 3 hots and a cot? Why is it so much per prisoner, is this run like a Somaalinnesota learing center? This must be where some of the billions are fraudulently peed away. Marsh Creek? That is 60% more than the median income for the Bay Area (228,000 v estimate of 137,000).

2023 – 2024 school year, statewide there were 44,859 dropouts.
In a decade that’s 448,590 dropouts. State department of education
began expressing number of dropouts as percentages some years
back. Possibly in an effort to hide embarrassing drop out numbers.
State even went so far as gifting, failed students diplomas.

These days democrat politician rely on persons directly dependent upon
government for their financial well being, either thru employment or those
needing government aid.

Students these days are taught what little knowledge,
