A group of California lawmakers, including Rep. Mark DeSaulnier and Sens. Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, is urging the Federal Bureau of Prisons to conduct additional environmental review before finalizing plans for the permanent closure of the former Federal Correctional Institution Dublin.
In a public comment letter, the lawmakers said a recently released Environmental Assessment identified contamination, environmental hazards and other safety concerns at the site, but did not fully evaluate potential future uses of the property after closure.
The lawmakers expressed support for permanently closing the prison and opposed any effort to convert the facility into an immigration detention center. They also called on the Bureau of Prisons to delay issuing a Finding of No Significant Impact, conduct additional environmental investigations, develop a mitigation and cleanup plan, and study the impacts of potential redevelopment, demolition or transfer of the property.
FCI Dublin was closed following years of scrutiny over staff misconduct and inmate abuse. The Bureau of Prisons is currently moving forward with plans to permanently deactivate the facility. DeSaulnier, whose district includes the prison site, has been involved in oversight efforts related to conditions at the facility and its closure.
We need more facilities to house illegals, criminals and the mentally ill these days not less!

If the group of politicians were actually honest they would go by their true name: The friends, supporters and enablers of criminals.
In the nation state of California, being pro-crime is the “in” thing.

What condition is the prison currently in? Is the condition so bad that it needs to be torn down of do they just want it torn down?
They just want it torn down for more high density/low income housing. We need more areas for criminals and the streets aren’t it!
That’s exactly what a jail is, low income housing. We certainly don’t need more data centers with all these criminals rolling through our streets.
They want all prisons, jails, incarceration facilities removed. No ICE, no Police, no arrests. Stupid.
