Clayton Safeway Walkway Gets A Lot Narrower – Have You Noticed?

Anyone notice the changes outside the Clayton Safeway on Kirker Pass & Clayton Road? Not a huge story, but the pedestrian access area between the parking lot and storefront has been significantly narrowed. The walkway previously accommodated several people walking side-by-side, but now appears to be roughly half its former width. The area has also been modified with a new raised curb and dirt planting bed. It’s pretty narrow for as busy as that Safeway is during the day.

Probably to keep cars from driving in. Are those yellow guards new?

Every time there is a story on Claycord about some idiot driving into a store, one or more Claycordians always comment about the need for bollards. It looks like Safeway was paying attention.

Bollards are accommodation for those who drive by braille.

I talked to the manager it was due to theft and yes people were driving through the glass doors. Easy way to solve this is to enforce the law and handout max sentence. Make them do the time for the crime. Society should not be penalized for others bad behavior. Vote out all incumbent leaders they are all complicent in this situation!

If there is no threat of substantial incarceration,
there is no deterrence to criminal behavior

It’s not as easy as you think, first the thieves would have to be caught.

The bollards were installed— what a year or so ago? And yeah, it was because someone drove through the entrance. In that case it was on purpose. That person did it more than once. Someone recently did the same at the nearby 7-Eleven. That was on Mother’s Day and was an accident.

If you notice though, they narrowed the path to the parking lot. It’s about half as wide as it used to be, and they raised the curb and put in a bed of dirt, presumably to plant something. Looks like they also painted the curb red and marked it a fire lane. All of that is new. It’s probably so you can’t rush out with a grocery cart to the parking lot so easily. Looks like a bottleneck. Might be a pain during busy times. I would say it used to be about 4 people wide, and now it’s about 2 people wide. If you have one person coming in, there’s room for one person going out. Are they having issues with shoplifting?

Couldn’t help but notice the Subway in the same shopping center is now gone. It was supposed to be closed years ago, but somehow managed to stay open.

Also, it looks like they’re repainting the center. Not sure if it’s primer, but there’s white paint on the building that houses Starbucks

There’s signs at the entrance to the center, but nothing on the signs yet.

Yes, can’t missed the narrower entrance… the bollards have been there tough …. the entire parking lot in that shopping enter needs to be repaved.- it would class-up the place but know it will never be
