QUESTION: In your opinion, what’s the best local landmark in Contra Costa County?

Mt. Diablo.
I’m curious who is taking the time to thumbs down someone’s opinion on a landmark, that’s wild.
It’s hard to say which one is the best, there’s so many.
Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front located in Richmond.
The Port Chicago Naval Magazine in Concord.
The John Muir House in Martinez.
Don Pacheco’s Adobe in Concord
The Galindo House in Concord.
There’s a restored lighthouse from the1800s sitting on a small
island near Point Richmond.
We also have the Black Diamonds Mines, and Mt Diablo.
So for the best, I’ll go with the John Mir House, it’s at an easy to
get to location, interesting, fun, and free with plenty of parking.

I would add: Soldier’s Monument – Dedicated December 11, 1927 to the military Veterans of Contra Costa County. Located on the corner of Contra Costa Blvd and Boyd Rd; Pleasant Hill
Mt. Diablo, right? I think it is the preeminent landmark in the state. Love coming from Lafayette and seeing it out there in front of me.
Mt. Diablo – no question – great views from the top on a clear day – especially in winter, you can see snow on the mountains to the east
Obviously Mt. Diablo.
But years ago I would have said the smokestack in the Crossings. My sister used to call it “The CC Boner” and a friend’s dad had me convinced it was full of jelly beans.
The Smokestack was my favorite. Seeing it meant we were nearing home.
I could see the smokestack from Suisun Bay while sturgeon fishing & that was cool because I only lived a few blocks away from it back then…. but I couldn’t quite see my house from there.
My buddy’s brother got busted climbing the smoke stack back in the early 80’s! Always loved it and thought it was cool that I grew up with it basically right next door.

The Giant World Globe and fountain at the entrance to Rossmore Retirement !!! Especially after we dumped boxes of Tide Soap into it on dark Friday Nights!!
