BART Tests Fare Gate Ads At Concord And Eight Other Stations

BART is testing advertising wraps on fare gates at nine stations, including Concord, as the transit agency looks for new revenue sources ahead of a projected budget deficit beginning in Fiscal Year 2027.

The pilot program places advertisements on the clear plexiglass doors and metal consoles of the newer fare gates. BART says the materials were tested beforehand to ensure they would not damage the gates or interfere with visibility for employees and police officers.

Stations included in the pilot are Concord, 19th Street Oakland, Downtown Berkeley, Dublin/Pleasanton, Fremont, 16th Street Mission, and Daly City. Additional wraps are expected to be installed at San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport stations before the FIFA World Cup.

The fare gate advertising test follows a separate train-wrap pilot launched earlier this year. BART officials say both programs are aimed at generating additional revenue while the agency continues efforts to reduce costs.

Yeah, California graduates who need remedial reading stop to read it and hold up the line. I can’t wait!

Finally, they start thinking about generating revenue outside of fares and bond/sales tax bailout. Fare gates, good start. How about the entire station, like stadiums do. Signage on the Walnut Creek BART parking garage facing 680? Charles Schwab Walnut Creek BART station. Pleasant Hill also. Show us you’re interested in making money!

Prior to retirement, job included training in hazard awareness and injury
prevention. Obscuring sight line of intended travel path not a great idea.
.
If someone spilled their morning pick-me-up as they passed thru gate
will advertising prevent next patron coming thru from seeing the spill,
they fall and are injured.
.
An, how large, will the lawsuit settlement be ? ? ? ?
.
BUT, But, but, idea sounded so great in all the group think meetings . . . . .
.
.
common sense, . . . . much ? ? ? ?

Well BART, you care about the visibility of employees and the police, but not your riders?
.
I applaud BART for attempting to increase revenue, but it’s too little too late, and placing an advertisement for people to read in a location where people need to keep moving may not be the best idea.
