Clayton Road is now closed in both directions between Bailey Road and Ayers Road as crews respond to an ongoing water line leak, according to Contra Costa Water District. The closure was expanded Friday as the district works to maintain water service to customers while preparing for repairs to a critical water line. Officials say repair work cannot begin until later this evening, meaning the incident is expected to continue for several more hours. Contra Costa Water District thanked residents for their patience. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes until repairs are completed.

of Clayton Road at Matheson Road has been taken out by vehicles.

Granted hydrants are designed to shear off when hit, but imagine
there is a fair amount of torque transmitted down pipe-work during
destruction process before hydrant gives way.
