Clayton Road is expected to remain closed through at least Saturday and possibly into Sunday as Contra Costa Water crews continue repairs on a complex water line leak between Bailey Road and Ayers Road.

According to Contra Costa Water, crews worked Friday to keep water service running for most customers while preparing for repairs. The agency was able to safely shut down the damaged pipe during the early morning hours Saturday, leaving customers in the immediate area without water while repair work is underway.

Officials described the leak as a complex repair that requires balancing operational needs with worker safety. Crews began repair efforts Saturday morning, but an estimated completion time has not yet been announced.

Contra Costa Water is urging residents and motorists to avoid the area while crews work to restore service and repair the damaged line. The closure of Clayton Road has created significant traffic impacts in the area, and drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes, including Concord Blvd., Treat Blvd, and Ygnacio Valley Rd. Contra Costa Water said its crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete repairs and restore water service to affected customers. They greatly appreciate your patience.

Aging infrastructure. Always good to have a few cases of bottled water on hand.

What caused the break?

Sunday about 3pm … is it open now?
