Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, Combodia, Laos, Taiwan, Japan, and the
Philippines. Of those, the Philippines is my favorite. A lot of the Filipino
people speak English, are friendly with Americans, and have not
forgotten what we did for them in WWII. The Philippines has some of
the most beautiful beaches in the world, especially on the island of
Cebu with its palm trees, and waterfalls, and where the water is a
bright turquoise.
What? USA butchered the Filipino people!
The Philippine–American War (1899–1902) was an armed conflict between the United States and Filipino revolutionaries, arising from the First Philippine Republic’s struggle for independence following the Spanish-American War. The grueling conflict resulted in an American victory, establishing U.S. sovereignty over the Philippines until full independence was granted in 1946. Casualties: Approximately 20,000 Filipino combatants and an estimated 200,000 to over 1,000,000 Filipino civilians (largely due to war-related famine and disease). U.S. forces suffered about 4,200 deaths.

They were hardly butchered. People die when they engage in a rebellion, and the Filipino people engaged in a rebellion against the United States. You also forgot the Moro Rebellion after the Philippine-American War which went on for another decade. It was a mistake for the United States to grant the Phillipines independence.
Wrong. Spain conquered the flips, renamed their country, prohibited their use of their indigenous last names, forced them to be catholics. Then US pretended to liberate them by chasing out the Spanish, but then assumed the role of the Spanish, continuing to keep the indigenous people enslaved and carrying on the Spanish policies. The the leader of the flips said, WHAT THE Fk? You tricked us! Youre no better than the Spanish. The flips fought and fought to oush out the invaders and regain their own country. They finally succeeded in 1946.

Congress passed a bill and President Wison signed it into law 30 years before the Philippines gained independence and Congress passed another bill and President Roosevelt signed it into law 10 years before the Philippines gained independence in order to grant the Philippines independence in the future. Let’s be honest, both laws and granting the Philippines independence was a mistake!!!

Almost all of the Filipinos that I’ve met regret the U.S. granting independence to the Philippines because they recognize independence left them subjugated under corrupt governments for decades and has made it more difficult for them and their families to immigrate to the U.S.
Wow! I mentioned that the Filipino people haven’t forgotten
what we did for them in WWII, and you go off on a rant about
the Philippine-American War. It was my observation while in
the Philippines that the Filipinos, especially the older generations,
view General MacArthur as a hero, and are grateful that he
liberated their country from the Japanese. I only reported what
I have seen and heard while I was in the Philippines.

Canada, Jamaica, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, France, Spain, Morocco. Austria and Switzerland were great for skiing.
We have visited 19 so far: Canada (2), Mexico (2), England (2), Netherlands (4), France (3), Spain (2), Monaco (2), Italy (6 times, total of about 4 months), Vatican City (2), Croatia, Austria (2), San Marino, Switzerland (2), Liechtenstein, Germany (2), Norway (2), Scotland, Denmark, Belgium. The number of times visited, if more than once, is in ( ). We recently got back from a month-long road trip around Italy, which we have done before. We have done other European road trips and think they are the best way to see a country. Italy is our favorite country. La dolce vita!
I have only been to Canada, England, Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium, all related to business, so did little sightseeing. basically, saw almost nothing. So, I liked them all equally, cannot pick a favorite.
Oh, did go to Mexico, Haiti and Jamaica on a cruise. Not favorites.
Where’s Lovelace when you need him?
Lovelace chimes in while traveling abroad and the envy sets in, but we’ve been to 54 countries, and we’ve enjoyed them all! If I had to choose, I’m going with Italy. The gondola rides in Venice at sunset were breathtaking. My favorite as a kid was Canada. British Columbia was gorgeous, and I didn’t want to come home. The most amazing natural beauty was Niagara Falls. We took an arial tramway over the falls, and I told myself if the cable breaks, and we go down with a splash, we had a fun trip!
We’ve been to Venice 4 times, and in spite of the crowds, it’s a great city to wander around in, especially later in the day after the day trippers leave. I broke my ankle in Venice at the top of the San Giorgio Church bell tower two years ago. I was convinced that it was just a bad sprain, so I drove and gimped around Europe on it for another 18 days. Most beautiful places we’ve visited (outside of Yosemite and Glacier in the U.S.)? So many, but here are a few: Gieranger Fjord in Norway, the Icefields Parkway in Canada, Lake Braies in the Italian Dolomites, Grindelwald Switzerland, and Lakes Como, Orta and Garda (the northern end of it) in Italy.
Europe used to be nice but not anymore. Their immigrant population has made Europe unsafe and unsanitary. Mexico used to be nice but over the decades, the drug cartels have grown in power & political influence and when you see beheaded skulls hanging from telephone poles, you know their govt has no control. Thailand has very good infrastructure and their hospitals (heaven forbid if ever got into an accident) are equipped with newer medical machines (CT Scan, MRI, Xray, etc etc) than American hospitals. Most of their MDs have graduated from US medical schools. Everyone is required to learn English from K-12. The USD-Thai Baht exchange rate makes lunch cheaper there than Vietnam or the Philippines. Thai food is outstanding (can’t say the same about other Asian countries) and very varied. Their police force (both uniformed and undercover) is very robust as the tourist is the #1 most protected species as they bring in the most $$$$ out of any industry.
BS. Just got back from Europe and it was wonderful. Prague, Bratislava and Budapest are safe than any US city. I can also sat the same for Athens, Rome and Lisbon. And I never heard any gunfire. If any place is unsafe it’s the US with all the freakin bang bang shoot em up
Europe is disgusting. If i wanted to go to arabia, i would’ve gone there. Europe is now Hindustan or Muslimstan. The indigenous people of Ireland and trying to take back their country before it becomes Somaliland. Alk you hear is the called to prayer 5 times a day. What happened to europe?
Have you actually seen this? We’ve spent 2 months in Europe since the spring of last year, all of it in Italy, except for an 18 day trip that included the Amsterdam, Bruges Belgium, Paris and areas near Paris and that was not our experience. We also spent a month in Europe in each of the previous two years. There is an illegal immigration problem in Europe (just like the U.S. – thank you Joe Biden), but it didn’t seem anywhere near as bad as you are noting. Europe is still worth visiting IMHO.
Been to France, Spain, Mexico and the UK. London was fun since we went there to see a Raider game!
I’ve been to Guam and the US Virgin Islands, but they’re both American. I’m still convinced that St Croix is the most beautiful place on the planet. I’ve also been to the British Bahamas, which was amazing, and Rota, Spain, which was not. I don’t know if it counts, but I’ve seen Halifax through a periscope.
Hmmm, I’ve been to Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, Aruba, Costa Rica, France, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. New Zealand was hands down the best, although Costa Rica is wonderful as well.
I spent 6 months on a course in France. On the way there went through Switzerland which my grandfather was from. Also toured India and a jaunt from Tucson to Mexico for lunch. Also played music gigs in British Columbia during the 1960s-70s.
A couple of standards like Canada (lived 4 hours from the boarder and have family there) and Mexico, then Europe and Africa. Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia and Morocco.
My favorites are Greece and Czechia. Athens has so much history and interesting architecture and Prague is stunningly beautiful

I have been to 17 countries, including the country l was born in. I lived in Israel for 3 months, on a kibbutz by the Golan Heights. I lived in Iceland for 3: months. When my friends and l left Iceland we took the ship from Reykjavik to Edinburg. We then proceeded to hitch hike to Loch Lomond then down to London, Dover, then to Northern France to Paris, from there Luxembourg. Belgium, Holland Northern Germany then home to Denmark. 4 months later l arrived in Westport Ct. as an au-pair. Been here ever since. Traveling to Israel we took the train from Copenhagen to Venice. Then by ship to Haifa with stops in Athens, Corfu, Crete and Turkey (very short stop). I been to Montreal and Vancouver loved Vancouver. I been to Mexico a couple of times, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta (2 times) and Matzalan. When my ex and l bought a BMW from the factory on Munich, we toured Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland and Northern Italy, before driving up to Denmark. I have spend a lot of time in Sweden because l have friends there, Gothenburg, but have also been to Stockholm. Hard to pick favorites, all have something special to offer. Definitely Israel so different so much history, coming directly from Denmark very exotic. Iceland very different but also beautiful, great memories from both since l traveled with good friends. Loved Scotland, York and London been there twice. Switzerland and Southern Germany very stunning, Salzburg, Munich, Lucerne, Montreux and Geneva.
Canada used to be a clean country but the immigrants have taken over and make it a habit of pooping in sand the beach. Toronto’s most common language is Hindi. There are Indian organized crime mafia that traffics in drugs and enslaved prostitutes in British Columbia.
