Police in Concord are warning residents to be on alert after a recent increase in residential burglaries, vehicle break-ins and attempted vehicle thefts across the city.
The Concord Police Department sent out a community alert on Monday, saying thieves have recently targeted Lexus, Honda and Acura vehicles, as well as pickup trucks, work trucks and contractor vehicles. Tools and construction equipment left inside vehicles have also been frequent targets, according to police.
They urged residents to take extra precautions, including locking vehicle doors and windows, removing valuables and tools from vehicles, and never leaving keys or key fobs inside.
Police also recommended parking in secured garages when possible and using anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, GPS trackers and vehicle alarm systems.
The department said criminals often target unlocked vehicles and property left in plain sight, noting that even a short period of time can provide an opportunity for theft.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious people, vehicles or activity to police. Anyone witnessing an emergency should call 911, while non-emergency suspicious activity should be reported to Concord police dispatch at (925) 671-3333.

We were told that Flock cameras and drones were the answer to these crimes, obviously that’s not true!!!
It doesn’t surprise me that I received a thumbs down, as some of those visiting Claycord continue to show us that they simply HATE FREEDOM!!! When you live in a free society sometimes bad things happen. The number of self-proclaimed Constitution loving, but freedom hating Claycordians, continues to astonish me. The answer is always more cameras, more surveillance, more police, and more government. When the government promises safety, it comes with a price, at a cost to our freedoms, liberties, and an increase in our taxes to expand the government state for “perceived safety.” So many never learn from history!!!
How about STIFF penalties for repeat offenders… NO Bail..and mandatory incarceration of some type

First you’d have to get the District Attorney to press charges, then obtain a guilty plea or guilty verdict, and then have judges who’d be willing to impose a penalty. The California State Legislature and Governor Newsom have absolutely no interest in passing laws mandating stiffer penalties for repeat offenders, no bail for property crimes, and mandatory incarceration.

Back when I was farming and ranching one of the neighboring ranchers turned out to be a cattle rustler stealing unbranded and untagged calves from his neighbors. He remained on his property in the area for the rest of his life but nobody ever forgot that he was a rustler.
Hear me out. Maybe they should start enforcing consequences for people’s actions.

First you’d have to get a guilty plea or a guilty verdict for those consequences to be enforced. It’s likely not going to be so easy to get a finding of guilt in Contra Costa County.
.. had car stolen from PH BART …. vehicle found in Oaktown – LE knew who the perp was – a tow truck driver contracted with BART! …did anything material happen to the perp? NO …. vehicle recovered stripped … things won’t improve until there’s a consequence for theft
basically there saying do our job and make it easier for us . even if they get them guess whos gonna be bailed out the next day
Wouldn’t recommend parking garages when they can’t even secure those. Our cars get ripped off daily and people robbed constantly just in our work parking garage in downtown. They are never in the area patrolling either. Companies have to hire security since they can’t keep up..
Would love to see a website for Contra Costa County district attorney that shows cases presented, charges accepted for prosecution and the disposition of the cases (dropped, pleaded and convictions or innocent, etc.) Also another, or the same, website that shows the sentences handed out (if any) by our county/state judges…….
I think we would see that most aren’t prosecuted after being arrested and presented to the DA. We would find most that are accepted are pleaded out with no or low jail time. The ones that do get jail time are probably out in 1/2 time or less than their sentences, and most have many crimes before they are even finally jailed for any meaningful time. It’s a sad state and county

A majority of the 8 million arrests nationwide each year aren’t charged with a crime, while 60% of crimes are never reported, 10% of those arrested each year are actually prosecuted for a crime, 90% of those actually prosecuted result in a plea bargain. Arrests nationwide have fallen by 25% from prepandemic levels due to “criminal justice reform” changes and a move away from drug crime arrests and prosecutions as a result of states lowering or eliminating drug crime penalties.
Is it possible to have our useless D.A. actually place thieves into jail for more than acfew hours when caught?
