Oceans are flat. In mid to late 1950s family would spend a months vacation
at Lake Tahoe. You could park your kid in Casino daycare. Dad and I had
a system I’d point at a slot machine thru sidewalk’s glass window, whatever
came out was mine.

Before Wife and I got married spent weekend at Stateline. Four rolls of
quarters would go, roll at a time into one pocket whatever came out of the
slot machine went in other pocket, ended up paying for the room. If Wife
could, she’d plant herself in front of a machine for hours.
I remember going to the Casino Daycare in the 70’s.
My 3 little brothers had a blast, …. as a teenager for me, it was the pits.
MOUNTAINS by far!
I like them both, but the ocean is my favorite. Fortunately, we don’t have to choose, since we live near both. Though I like the mountains, I can’t imagine living more than a couple of hours away from the ocean. On our recent Italian road trip, we stayed across the street from the beach in Lerici on the Bay of Poets on the Mediterranean, in the Italian Riviera. We could see and hear the ocean from our sea view room and it was wonderful. We also love to spend time on the Monterey Peninsula and often sit by and enjoy the view and sound of the ocean at Asilomar state beach. Then there are our frequent trips to Kauai……..

The mountains near a stream or lake. One of my favorites is a small lake on
a mountain top in the Mendocino National Forest. It’s remote, peaceful, and
quiet. A place where I can fall asleep under the stars while looking up at the
Milky Way. There are ocean beaches that are also remote and peaceful where
the only sound you hear is the sound of the waves and seagulls, but my first
choice will always be the mountains where the only sound I hear are the crickets.

I like both but for different reasons. When we lived in San Diego, we lived in the Pacific Beach section – so we spent a lot of time enjoying the ocean with our kids. If we’re looking for a cool getaway, it’s the mountains. We’ve always enjoyed national parks – Yosemite is our favorite. Too hard to choose!

Like them both … if you’re trying to surf, skim board, or surf fish – the ocean …. camping, hiking, fishing in streams or lakes or looking for solitude – the mountains (or go dirt bike riding – the desert 🙂

you are right ( my opinion as well), but it needs some strong will. lived here all my life to the envy of others but now we are off course
Thank God I don’t have to choose, but if I did I’d say ocean, for the fishing, boating, surfing, and bikini watching. And I love to eat “fresh caught seafood”!!!
If another Dem. gets voted in as CA governor, we are moving the whole family to Hayden Lake Idaho. My family owns 12 acres some on lake front property, with my name of it, can’t wait.
Either way I’m building a home on it, I’ll stay in CA in the winter time if Steve becomes Gov, and sell our home and move for good if he loses, and we stay blue. I don’t want to leave CA, but we are being forced out by this Blue Political cancer, I’ve fill the Ocean void, by making a few Alaska or Canada trips as needed.

Mountains when we had the family cabin.Now, it’s not an easy one to answer so I won’t.
I’ll take the desert over both of them.
I don’t like water, so the ocean doesn’t do much for me. There are too many bugs in the mountains.
… like the desert too …. wide open spaces – great views… solitude & quiet – except for the coyotes at night
Memories of falling asleep to the sound of ocean waves, or hiking in the majesty of our local hills and mountains.
I’d say it’s a tie.
The mountains are way better, it’s no contest. As an introvert, I enjoy places where it’s not crowded and it’s not loud. I like peace and quiet and the mountains offer that. I never go to the beach because there’s too many people around and it’s always full of loud people and noises. There are plenty of nice streams and waterfalls around mountains so it’s not like I’d be missing out on seeing the water. Plus, once you’ve seen the ocean, it just gets old. 🌄⛰️🏞
Neither each have their charm. In general I don’t like to compare, nature. Growing up in Denmark you are never far from the ocean. Denmark consist of a Peninsula, 2 bigger islands, and a lot of small Islands. The Peninsula (Jylland or in English Jutland is attached to Germany) Copenhagen is on the island of Sjaelland (Zealand)
I grew up 30 miles south of Copenhagen and 10 miles from the beach. As a child and teenager whenever you traveled to other parts of Denmark you had to take a ferry. Now there’s bridges between the bigger islands and even to Sweden. So l love the ocean and water in general, one reason l loved living in Benicia. However, Denmark is pretty flat, except for some rolling hills, so l was always fascinated by mountains. When l traveled to Israel we took the train from Copenhagen to Venice. It was an overnight trip we were 4 girls in a sleeping car. I woke up and it was pitch dark, except we were in a tunnel, and after a few minutes we were out of the tunnel, and we were in the Swiss Alps, l had never seen anything do fascinating, I woke up my sleeping companions, girls we are in the alps. They got mad at me, telling me it was 5 am, l was like so what, we are in the Alps. They went back to sleep, l didn’t l was too excited l just stayed awake and took in the scenery. In California l equally enjoy Carmel, the Sonoma coastline and Tahoe and my all time favorite Yosemite, although both Tahoe and Yosemite have water, just not the ocean.
