The California Highway Patrol stopped a driver allegedly going the wrong way on state Route 4 in Contra Costa County following a sideshow, the agency said Sunday.
On Thursday just after 11:30 p.m., CHP officers responded to a reported sideshow near Franklin Canyon Road and state Route 4 in an unincorporated area of the county near Hercules.
According to the CHP, a silver Infiniti sedan that had been involved in the sideshow fled the area and entered the westbound lane of Route 4 by driving the wrong way. A patrol vehicle on the highway immediately began a traffic break to protect other drivers from the approaching vehicle.
Moments later, officers spotted the Infiniti with its lights turned off driving the wrong way on the westbound shoulder of Route 4 east of McEwen Road and placed a patrol car in its path to protect other drivers, the CHP said. The Infiniti continued toward the patrol vehicle and crashed head-on into it. After the crash, the driver ran from the vehicle, but officers quickly detained him. Two adult female passengers were also detained.
The two passengers suffered suspected minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital, where they are expected to recover. One CHP officer was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and was later released. After receiving medical clearance, the driver was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
The driver, Seth Antonio Edwards, 22, of Pittsburg, was arrested on suspicion of driving the wrong way on a freeway while fleeing, resisting arrest, participating in a speed contest, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

When someone has so little respect for peoples lives, by driving the wrong way on the freeway, to avoid police, I wonder if the authorities interview the neighbors of the house where this punk lives. It would be interesting to know this persons driving habits when they are in their own neighborhood. In my neighborhood there are a half dozen that speed and tear up the road with their private sideshows. Is this the only solution, by waiting for something this crazy to happen?
