The Clayton City Council is meeting tonight to officially begin the process for the city’s November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election. During tonight’s special meeting, councilmembers are expected to adopt two resolutions needed to place the election on the ballot.
The council is scheduled to call the election for two City Council seats, each carrying four-year terms that will expire in 2030. The resolutions also ask Contra Costa County to consolidate Clayton’s election with the statewide General Election and authorize the county to handle election administration, including printing ballots, mailing voter information guides and certifying the results.
Councilmembers are also expected to continue the city’s long-standing policy limiting candidate statements in the voter information guide to 200 words. Candidates who choose to submit a statement would pay an estimated $323 to cover printing, mailing and required translations into Spanish and Mandarin, in addition to the city’s $25 filing fee.
