I am not their employer, therefore it’s not my responsibility to pay them or
to supplement their income. Asking for a tip is no different from standing
on the sidewalk begging for spare change. And displaying a tip jar is
presumptuous, crude, and classless. Furthermore, expecting a tip is an
indication of arrogance and entitlement. If the customer wants to leave
a tip, that’s fine, if they don’t want to leave a tip, that should be fine as well.
Where does it end? Should we tip the cashier at a retail store? Maybe we
can start tipping the nurse for taking our temperature and blood pressure,
and don’t forget to tip the surgeon after an operation.
If you tip the doctor & nurses before they pull the catheter out you’ll just wake up after it’s already been done and feel all comfy and dreamy… if you don’t tip, the nurses will just hold you down while the doctor yanks that thing outa there like he’s starting a lawnmower.

What are the repercussions when you aren’t properly tipped?
I retired before the tipping craziness started and the State Medical Board discovered I never had a medical license or any real education as a doctor.
Maybe consumers should start getting tipped for patronizing businesses.
its out of control and absolutely absurd…………………………………. A tip is something for exceptional service as a way of showing you appreciate the service. Most nice restaurants now include it as a gratuity on the bill. I was duped and tipped on top of the gratuity already included in the bill. So I tipped twice. I have also spoken to numerous employees of restaurants, and the included gratuity goes into the owner’s pocket not to the employee.
I refuse to tip the person who says its going to ask you a question… No Sh!t sherlock you don’t think I know what the question is. Tell your Employer its not my job to help pay your salary. Have them pay you more your worth
USA Jim is absolutely right. Tips are for service not wages. When you have great service it is a way of saying “Thank you” for the extra care given. Normal service (what you are paid for) means normal wages. Entitled to a tip for doing the job you are paid for is welfare…. show a little extra and you deserve a little extra and 90% of the time it will make you feel appreciated as well.

Pour a cup of coffee at a coffee shop, …no.
Make a sandwich at a deli, … yes.
When I was working, retail, had one customer who would bring me flowers.
She always brightened my day.

Is the coffee served with a greeting and a smile? Is it a small local shop where the profit margins are extremely slim and pay is low due to that? Those are factors that should be considered.
Totally disagree. It’s a cup of coffee. If the profit margins are too thin and they’re relying on tips to stay in business, then perhaps they should get out of that business or raise their prices.
No! The attitudes and laziness these days do not deserve tips. for just doing the job they were hired for..
Employers who pay workers less in wages, because tips will make up the difference–are
scumbag employers! “No Tax on Tips” is going to make people who depend on tips to get
less in tips–so employers should make up the rest.
I do tip, but rarely more than 15%, and then, only voluntarily for extra-effort service.

I don’t tip for everything, but I do enjoy tipping generously for tangible services. I also keep in mind employees have “long memories.” I believe tipping is optional, so if you don’t want to part with it or you can’t afford it you shouldn’t feel pressured. It’s a free country…
Don’t tick off people who prepare or serve you food!

I agree. Having been a bartender, I understand why servers love you!
We just don’t go out and eat because people can’t control their impulses. You don’t even have to be rude, you can just look a certain way or wear certain clothing and crap service coming your way! Save your money eat better food and let the entitled keep scrambling!

Neither myself or my husband are “MAGA” and don’t wear hats, why would you assume that was or would be our attire? Conservatives spend money too what a shortsighted answer as if people deserve less service because the way they vote!?!
Unfortunately, Dee, it’s true. Customers who are Trump supporters have been treated terribly in restaurants, with some flat-out refusing to wait on them. So when you said crappy service coming your way because of your attire, one could definitely come to the conclusion that it’s some sort of MAGA wear. Even dems now are getting asked to leave by other dems. Dan Goldman was recently refused service at a coffee shop because he’s Jewish and supports Israel.
If servers were paid a living wage we wouldn’t have to tip so much. That’s what they do in Europe. People gotta eat!
Choose a better job would be the correct answer here, it is nobody elses responsibility to fill a wage gap for anyone!
Minimum wage in CA is $16.90 with many cities higher. I placed my order you brought it to me. Thank you. I place my order at the counter you brought it to me. Thank you. That is your job. At $16.90 per hour plus the tips you are doing OK. Plus, no tax on tips. The “they don’t make much” is no reason to feel obligated to tip them. There are a lot of people that don’t make much. There will always be people that tip, good for them. If I feel that service was outstanding for a large group then a tip. Otherwise I’m over it.
I do not mind tipping for services. If the person giving me a cup of coffee on the rare occasion i order one, I have no problem throwing a buck in. They will get more use from that buck than I would and the interaction was pleasant enough, I am good to give someone a small smile.
In Italy, the restaurant workers are paid a decent wage and tipping is not expected. BTW, the food is great and most of it is produced close to where it is consumed. This results in differences in menu offerings as the seasons change and different food is available.
This is an easy one. When I have a server, I tip if the service is good. If I’m going to a counter to do a retail transaction, I say thank you.
It all depends on service. I attend a Tuesday morning coffee group at a great little local cafe. You order at the counter and Katie pours and hands you your mug of coffee with a smile a bit of chit chat and always a sunny happy disposition. Coffee is $3 with a refill included. I hand her a $5 and walk away as her cheerfulness is worth a $2 tip. The cafe is a small local business that doesn’t turn a big profit, but must be doing something right as there is not a big turnover of employees.
Tipping culture is out of control. Tips should be received for exceptional service not just for showing up with a bad attitude. It is not socities responsibility to bridge the gap for someone’s lack of drive to succeed.
5 bucks is enough for 3 people if i have 7 or more 15 is enough there out there minds asking for 35-50
once i had a 83 service charge like im i the employer or what
