Motorists traveling along Interstate 80, I-980, and I-580 in Contra Costa, Solano, and Alameda counties should expect overnight lane, ramp, and connector closures as Caltrans continues work on a fiber optic infrastructure project through Winter 2028, Caltrans announced.

Construction is scheduled nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions.

Daytime shoulder and local street closures also may occur between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, according to transport officials.

During the week of July 6-9, crews will close multiple eastbound and westbound lanes on I-80, along with several on- and off-ramps between Richmond and the Carquinez Bridge.

Closures also will affect the I-980 connector to Interstate 880 and the I-80 connector to Interstate 580, Caltrans said.
Additional overnight lane closures are planned for the week of July 12-17 as crews continue installing fiber optic infrastructure and bridge casing work.

Caltrans advised drivers to expect delays, follow posted detours, and allow extra travel time. Some local streets also may have temporary traffic controls with flaggers directing vehicles through construction areas.
