The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is set to consider a sweeping new policy Tuesday that would significantly limit how County employees and resources can be used to assist federal immigration authorities.
The proposed “Non-Cooperation Policy,” recommended by the Board’s Equity Committee, would prohibit the use of County funds and resources to assist with immigration enforcement except where required by law. If approved, County employees would generally be prohibited from providing immigration authorities access to non-public areas of County facilities without a judicial warrant or other legal requirement. The policy would also prohibit departments from honoring administrative immigration warrants, prevent County-owned properties—including parking lots, vacant lots and parking garages—from being used to stage or conduct immigration enforcement operations, and restrict the sharing of County-maintained information with immigration authorities unless disclosure is legally required.
The proposal further states that County services and benefits cannot be conditioned on a person’s citizenship or immigration status unless required by law. County employees who receive requests from immigration authorities seeking access to non-public areas or records would be required to immediately notify their supervisors. The policy would also establish a monthly reporting requirement for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office regarding contacts with immigration authorities.
According to the staff report, the proposal has been under development for nearly a year. The issue was first referred to the Equity Committee in August 2025, followed by several public discussions and revisions before the committee voted in June to send the policy to the full Board for consideration.
County officials say the policy is intended to strengthen trust between local government and immigrant communities. The resolution states that immigrants are “valuable and essential members” of Contra Costa County and argues that cooperation between local agencies and federal immigration enforcement can discourage victims and witnesses from reporting crimes or seeking health care and other public services.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to take up the proposal during its meeting on Tuesday in Martinez. If adopted, the policy would become one of the County’s most comprehensive measures governing interactions with federal immigration authorities.
I think it’s funny that a few slimy and corrupt politicians can consider demanding what a Federal Government Agency is allowed to do in this crummy country.
The Board will pass this agenda, limiting what ICE can do, but the proposal is meaningless and a waste of time and money for the people paying the taxes.
