Have always found it fascinating, lack of sustained gnashing of teeth, and hand wringing by democrat liberals as they lament “the financial hardship”, charges of drunk driving have on “persons of color”. Their favorite label, specifically designed to gin up the sympathetic “white guilt” mindset as prelude for their latest short sighted, knee jerk, fantasy fix for “criminals”. . As a clinician, have dealt with drunks for over four decades. Alcohol does give a rat’s behind about your skin color or economic station in life. . Will give Courts credit for their approach, mandatory classes, ignition interlocks, etc. . BUT, there is a difference between a problem drinker and an alcoholic. . Problem drinker goes before the Judge, who says “I’m tired of seeing you in my Court. I see you before me again, you’re doing serious Prison time.” Upon hearing that, problem drinker thinks to their self “I don’t want to go to Prison” and sometimes stops getting in trouble. . An alcoholic hearing those exact same words, walks out of Court wondering, “What’s going to be like in Prison” ? ? ? . Old story, been around for years, oft repeated . . . Yet have seen it come to fruition, again and again. . Person has to hit bottom, and make a conscious decision, they are ‘Sick-n-Tired’ of being, ‘Sick-n-Tired’ and never want to be that way again. And seek help. . Have been to way too many ceremonies, marking an end of addiction to alcohol. A life lost. . Am fortunate to be Married to a wonderful Woman, who believes it’s all merely a matter of willpower . . . . . She is entitled to her belief, and that doesn’t mean I LOVE HER any less. . What were the other 18,235+ enforcement contacts for, how does this compare to a normal weekend, and how many more CHP officers were used to achieve these results?
